The primary duty of this position is to support the Institute for Disability Research, Policy and Practice - Research and Training Division by developing and conducting technical assistance for Disability Employment Providers. This position reports to the Associate Director of the IDRPP Research and Training Division, and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and conduct technical assistance for community employment (75%)

  • Provides ongoing technical assistance to community rehabilitation providers, employment specialists, job coaches, school districts and other community-based staff.
  • Conducts needs assessment with community employment providers, identifies goals and creates customized technical assistance plans.
  • Evaluates community rehabilitation providers employment programs and the implementation of best practices in services.
  • Develops and implements formal technical assistance plans, content outlines, handouts and evaluation tools; that aligns with the Association for Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) supported employment competencies.
  • Develops and conducts "train the trainer" sessions for subject matter expert instructors.
  • Responds to new project requests for training and development. Works with supervisor and team to prioritize and assign work.
  • Work as part of a larger team emphasizing meaningful access to education and community settings for adults with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the ACRE Training (25%)

  • Assist with the design and delivery of employment training programs for managers and administrative leaders in employment programs.
  • Performs tasks such as scheduling ACRE classes, preparing materials, supporting on-site and off-site offerings, preparing reports, and entering development-related information into the Canvas Learning Managing System (LMS).
  • Promote project awareness through community partnerships and networking.
  • Participate in planning meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Grade and provide feedback on individual ACRE assignments.
  • Update employment specialist training curriculum that aligns with evidence-based practices.
  • Use online computer software such as Excel, Word, and other programs to maintain thorough training records.
  • Assist with research projects.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Development, Family Studies, Special Education, Public Health, Sociology, Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field plus two years of work experience in employment programs for individuals with disabilities or Special Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supported employment and customized employment.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and community employment providers and community partners.
  • Experience providing training to disability support professionals
  • Competent in the use of computer programs including Excel, Microsoft Office and other applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people.
  • Able to work within a team-based environment.
  • Experienced in managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines. Able to organize work responsibilities and self-assess personal performance against target objectives.
  • Proactive in resolving issues, setting up processes, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality and work without close supervision.
  • Meet background check requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Psychology, Human Development, Family Studies, Special Education, Public Health, Sociology, Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding community employment supports and services.
  • Experience with data collection, assessments, and implantation strategies.
  • General understanding of federal, state, and local supported employment systems.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
