Overview

The Assistive Technology (AT) Coordinator (Engineering Technician III) is a full-time, non-exempt, benefited position located in Uintah County, under the supervision of the Utah Assistive Technology Program within the Institute for Disability Research, Policy, and Practice at Utah State University.

 

Job Location: 2574 W 500 N #2, Vernal, UT 84078
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a 1-hour lunch

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with AT Program Director regarding data management, data reporting, and development of strategic initiatives responsive to data considerations.

  • Works directly with individuals with disabilities, collaborating with professionals from statewide disability-related organizations, OTs, PTs, and other medical professionals. Ensures proper evaluation of clients' needs and customizes and fits mobility and various assistive technology equipment. Seeks external assistance for complex mobility needs.

  • Assesses functionality of donated mobility equipment, recycling items that cannot be refurbished. Organizes and stores usable parts, cleans, sanitizes, and refurbishes used mobility equipment. Pursues ongoing knowledge and technical reference materials for continuous improvement of refurbishing operations.

  • Delivers and picks up mobility equipment in Eastern Utah, transports scrap materials to recycling facilities, and purchases program supplies using program vehicle.

  • Overall responsibility for the safe and effective implementation of all program objectives.

  • Communicates with external agencies, vendors, and organizations, ensuring prompt, effective, and professional communication and service delivery.

  • Builds and enhances working relationships with external disability-related organizations to achieve program objectives and expand services.

  • Manages program resources, supervises daily operations, and provides adequate supervision to part-time employees and volunteers. Improves processes for better service delivery, oversees data management, paperwork, and reporting procedures for accuracy and timeliness.

  • Maintains, cleans, and organizes the work environment for efficient and effective processes and to enhance the public's perception of the program's ability to offer services to people with disabilities.

  • Organizes outreach activities, including exhibits, health fairs, and media events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to travel to different locations to pick up equipment following the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Honesty and excellent ethics are required, along with experience in dealing with money and monetary transactions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in the Assistive Technology or other related field. 
  • Mechanical repair background with knowledge of basic power tools, hand tools, and basic electronics.
  • Strong customer service experience and a proven ability to interact positively with outside agencies, vendors, and clients in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and mobility equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and inventory equipment and tools.
  • Solid PC skills, especially in the Microsoft Office suite, and experience with computer data entry and inventory spreadsheets.
  • Strong multitasking and proactive abilities.
  • Self-initiative and the ability to work well with limited supervision.
  • Ability to research and stay informed about upcoming assistive technology products to make appropriate recommendations to clients.

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
