The Department of Veterinary Clinical and Life Sciences (VCLS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a tenure track or professional practice Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Medical Education position with the assignment of 75% teaching, 20% research and 5% service (for tenure-track), or 95% teaching and 5% service (for professional practice).  The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024. This candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of veterinary professionals by directing veterinary medical instruction throughout the curriculum. The candidate is expected to design, develop, and help deliver veterinary medical instruction in the new Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree curriculum. The candidate is also expected to develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and evaluation criteria to measure veterinary students’ medical mastery throughout the program's entirety. This candidate will also contribute to other curriculum activities associated with their expertise.

Currently, the USU CVM participates in a “2+2” program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington – Idaho – Montana – Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine that provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022 the State of Utah approved the establishment of a full 4-year DVM degree program at USU with the goal of admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. This position offers multiple opportunities for professional development in instruction, curriculum design, and innovative teaching methods. Position Responsibilities for Teaching:

• Design, develop, and help deliver veterinary medical instruction in the DVM degree curriculum
• Develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and evaluation criteria to measure veterinary students’ veterinary medical competence and mastery
• Contribute to developing the DVM degree curriculum and other curriculum activities associated with their expertise

• Contribute to the department, college, university, and profession through service (e.g., serve on graduate student, curriculum, hiring, and admissions committees)

Position Responsibilities for Research (if applicable):

• Develop and carry out a research program that includes mentoring students to produce quality research as well as seeking external funding to support the research program
• Publish scholarship in peer-reviewed scientific outlets
• Steady and consistent record of research or creative endeavors supporting your scholarly activity

Minimum Qualifications:

• Earned DVM degree or equivalent
• Board-certified in an AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty
• At least five years of clinical veterinary experience
• Experience teaching veterinary students in a clinical or didactic setting
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team member in a collaborative setting

Additional Qualifications for the Rank of Associate Professor:

• Demonstrated ability to design and successfully implement curricula in a DVM degree program
• Demonstrated ability to publish refereed scientific/educational research
• Demonstrated ability to acquire extramural funding (for candidates seeking a research appointment)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM-SAIM) or American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS-SA)

Employees typically work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, however, dependent on assignment, work may be done in agricultural environments (i.e., arenas, barns, paddocks, stocks, etc.) with minimal or no heat and exposure to the elements.

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and it's four-year, Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree were approved by the Utah System for Higher Education in the spring of 2022. In alignment with this, the Utah State legislature approved on-going funding for the CVM and the construction of a state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Education Building.
