The USU Tooele Campus is currently seeking a qualified Math Tutor to join Tooele Student Services. The successful applicant will primarily serve as a tutor for students enrolled in general MATH and Algebra courses, including MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010, and 2020, with potential involvement in trigonometry, calculus, and related courses. Tutors are expected to conduct all sessions on-site at the Tooele Campus; remote work is not available. The supervisor will assign specific hours based on student needs and the courses taught during the semester, with a focus on evening sessions.

Position Details:

  • Semester: Spring 2024 (February 1, 2024 - May 1, 2024)
  • Location: Tooele Campus
  • Responsibilities: Primarily tutoring general MATH and Algebra courses, potential for trigonometry, calculus, and related courses
  • Work Schedule: Evenings, with exact hours assigned by the supervisor

Note: There is a potential opportunity for the selected candidate to continue tutoring in subsequent semesters.


  1. Math Tutor Responsibilities: Serve as a Math Tutor for students enrolled in general Algebra and MATH courses, including MATH 0950, 0995, 1050, 1051, 1210, 2010, and 2020.

  2. Tutoring Sessions: Conduct tutoring sessions both in person on campus and through Zoom online.

  3. Assistance Provided: Provide comprehensive assistance with understanding course content, homework assignments, exam reviews, and explanation of recently discussed concepts in classes.

  4. Collaboration with Student Success Coordinator: Collaborate with Tooele's Student Success Coordinator throughout the semester to assess student needs and update tutoring practices accordingly.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Proficient in College Algebra, including MATH 1050 or higher (or equivalent).
  3. Preference will be given to those who have successfully completed the following or their respective equivalents:
    • MATH 1050 (College Algebra)
    • MATH 1060 (Trigonometry)
    • MATH 1210 and/or 1220 (Calculus)

  1. Must be willing to attend training on the online tutoring system.
  2. Ability to work independently.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  4. Ability to work with diverse populations.
  5. Demonstrates personal integrity.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively.
  7. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Advertised Salary

$17.00 per hour


Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
