Overview

The Alumni Officer for Alumni Career & Professional Development (Career Services Specialist SR) is a new position and is critical to a successful and dynamic alumni engagement team. The officer is highly collaborative and works closely with the entire University Advancement staff in elevating Utah State University through philanthropy and engagement.

 

The Alumni Engagement team supports the USU Alumni Association’s mission to “provide opportunities for meaningful lifelong involvement” for more than 220,000 members of the Aggie Family. As part of the Alumni Engagement team, the Alumni Officer will develop the strategy and delivery of career and professional development for USU alumni. This includes creating a strategic engagement plan to promote lifelong learning and post-graduate educational opportunities to alumni at diverse career stages, helping them develop and enhance their career trajectory, and deepen their lifelong relationships with USU. 

 

The position requires extensive public contact with alumni, donors, students, and volunteers. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial mentality in creating premier networking and engagement opportunities for alumni. Possessing the ability to make data-informed decisions is imperative to the continued success of the team. Availability and willingness to travel, as well as work some nights and weekends, is required. The Alumni Officer reports to the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement in the division of University Advancement

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the Aggie Network career and engagement platform, cultivating relationships with alumni to create meaningful networking experiences. Responsible for increasing users and engagement.
  2. Create, promote, and execute mentorship and networking programming (students-to-alumni and alumni-to-alumni) in partnership with relevant campus stakeholders and notable alumni. This includes in-person and virtual event programming for job seekers, career changes, recent graduates, etc.
  3. Develop and implement strategies for measuring the success and impact of career and professional development programs, using data and feedback to continuously improve and expand program offerings and engagement.
  4. Serve as liaison between the Alumni Association and USU Career Design Center to assist in connecting students and alumni in career planning and development.
  5. Develop relationships with employers, alumni, and other stakeholders to identify resources and opportunities relevant to the needs and interests of the Aggie worldwide community.
  6. Coordinate with the USU Advancement Associate Vice President of Corporations and Foundations to solicit sponsorships for collaborative programming for alumni and employers
  7. Work with the Student Alumni Association’s Alumni Engagement branch to plan and execute networking events throughout the year (i.e. Alumnights, Bridging Banquet, Aggie-to-Aggie). Events may be in-person, virtual, or hybrid.
  8. Coordinate with Aggie Chapter volunteers to provide mentoring opportunities for students.
  9. Innovate and facilitate new lifelong learning opportunities for alumni (i.e. continuing education, seminars, cohort-style career assistance
  10. Lead the USU Alumni Advisory Board networking committee to enhance and chart the Alumni Association’s direction for alumni networking and career support.
  11. Partner with colleges, departments, programs, and Advancement staff for alumni career development opportunities, including internships.
  12. Perform additional related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to create connections, build relationships, and work effectively with multiple stakeholders (alumni, employers, students, faculty, staff) from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly developed organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize effectively.
  • Dependability, creativity, good judgment, and professionalism are vital to the success of this position.
  • Demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical, research, and management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly with donors, volunteers, and staff members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Willingness and ability to travel; evening and weekend work is required.
  • Experience using a career platform (i.e. Graduway, PeopleGrove), Handshake, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, Qualtrics, Banner, Canvas, a plus.
