Utah State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking a Clinician to join our energetic, professional, experienced, and good natured staff to serve USU-Statewide Campuses. Utah State University continues its tradition of land-grant outreach by delivering quality education to students across the state. As part of this mission, USU provides access to various student services to the 31 USU-Statewide Campuses and education centers. Currently, CAPS-Statewide has four therapists each serving their respective campuses (Brigham City, Salt Lake City, Price, and the Uintah Basin), as well as other USU-Statewide students that don't have access to a physical USU campus or education center. This position will be based out of the USU-Blanding campus and primary interactions with other CAPS colleagues will be maintained remotely through Zoom, email, or phone.

The primary responsibility for this position is to serve USU-Blanding students (mainly Navajo and Native American students), faculty, and staff, and the successful candidate will also collaborate with other CAPS Statewide therapists to provide services to the entire USU Statewide system. Main duties include mental health services and outreach to students, consultation with faculty and staff, and professional training to masters and undergraduate students. Clinicians at USU-CAPS are also expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of diversity and social locations such as: gender, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and social-economic status.

This position will be full-time, benefited, at either a 12-month or 10-month appointment (August-May).

Clinical Services 50%:

• Provides individual face-to-face and teletherapy psychotherapy, consultation, assessment, intake, and crisis interventions.
• Prepares for sessions and maintains accurate and up-to-date records of clinical services, and if interested, provides couples and group therapy.

Outreach Services 20%:

• Prepares for and provides outreach presentations and workshops.
• Serves on departmental, division, and university committees.
• Fosters relationships with assigned liaisons and attends consultations with USU-Statewide faculty, staff, and students.

Peer Mental Health Support/Training 10%:

• Support supervision of undergraduate Peer Mental Health Prevention Specialists.
• Help oversee facilitation of connecting students of concern with a Peer Mental Health Specialist.
• Regularly report and document data related to campus mental health activities and those related to Peer Mental Health Prevention Specialist tasks and activities.

Drug/Alcohol Prevention and Counseling 10%:

• Engages in drug and alcohol assessment, prevention, and educational outreach work.
• Coordinates these efforts with the USU Student Health and Wellness Prevention Specialist.

Coalition Work 10%:

• Collaborate with local coalitions and campus coalition members on initiatives related to mental health, student well-being, and overall coalition mission and goals.
• Attend local coalition monthly or quarterly meetings.
• Regularly report and document campus activities related to coalition work.

Other Professional Responsibilities:

• Practices all responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws.
• Understands and complies with CAPS and university policies and procedures.
• Effectively participates in administrative and professional activities (e.g., staff and division meetings, case conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.).
• Fosters excellent working relationships with co-workers, increases knowledge and develops new skills or abilities that contribute to effective service provision, contributes to the evaluation and improvement of CAPS, and all other duties as assigned.
• Travels to various statewide campuses, including the Logan campus for outreach, training, and retreats.

Minimum Qualifications:

• For hire as a Clinician I:
  
  • A master’s degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and eligible for licensure in Utah as a mental health provider within 2 years of hire date.
• For hire as a Clinician II:
  
  • A master’s degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and current Utah licensure (or ability to secure licensure by hire date) that allows independent practice (e.g., LCSW, CMCH, LMFT) OR
  • A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program and eligible for licensure in Utah as a Psychologist within 1 year of hire date
• All levels:
  
  • Experience in a university counseling setting and/or experience in areas strongly related to mental health needs in a college population (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, personality disorders).
  • Experience with drug and alcohol assessment, prevention, and educational outreach.
  • Generalist base of knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy), (i.e., theories, processes, and elements of therapeutic change) and familiarity with developmental and other non-medical models of treatment and supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem solving, and decision making skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.
  • Given the nature of the position, a willingness to travel to adjacent USU-Statewide Campuses (e.g., Montezuma Creek and Monument Valley) including occasional trips to the USU-Logan campus.
  • Ability to work and coordinate with a small group of CAPS-Statewide clinicians and to work effectively as an independent and self-motivated, professional staff member.
  • Willingness and capacity to effectively use such telehealth media as Zoom, Cisco, and Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC).
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license and a willingness to travel to various statewide campuses, including the Logan campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or combined psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program, completion of an APA-accredited internship, and an ability to be licensed in the state of Utah within 2 years. ABD will be considered if defense date is set and confirmed by the applicant's program.
• Experience with psychoeducational assessment.
• Demonstrated experience working with Native American individuals.
• Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first generation college students on a university campus.
• Experience providing supervision.
• Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops relevant to the campus community.
• Experience and interest in conducting group therapy.
• Experience with teaching and program development.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Skills with technology (Word, Titanium, etc.)
