This full-time, 12-month position is designed to plan, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate comprehensive technical assistance programs that enhance the capacity of individuals and organizations to address pressing environmental and energy justice priorities. Funded through a collaborative agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this role not only supports Utah State University's commitment to diversity and inclusion but also actively seeks to foster and build resilient, empowered communities within the designated region. The incumbent will be instrumental in recruiting, supporting, and providing mentorship to community navigators and program participants, especially those from underserved, rural, remote, and Tribal communities. The position is benefits-eligible and reflecting the significance and impact of the work across the region.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.

This position is funded for 5 years, but may be longer contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

  • Program Delivery and Coordination: Take the lead in the strategic planning and execution of technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives tailored to the unique environmental and energy justice challenges of rural Utah communities. This includes delivering high-quality programming and leveraging a train-the-trainer model to enhance local capacities.

The role involves extensive travel within the region to engage directly with communities and program participants.
  • Educational and Capacity-Building Material Development: Create and distribute a wide range of capacity-building tools, including webinars, training sessions, grant templates, and other resources, to broaden the program's impact. Ensure these materials are accessible and beneficial to a diverse audience.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting: Implement effective mechanisms for tracking program activities, collecting feedback, and assessing the impact of initiatives.
  • Utilize project databases to monitor progress and outcomes, contributing to continuous improvement of the program.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with peers within the LGTP TCTAC, other regional and national programs, and various stakeholders at the local, state, and national levels to amplify the collective impact of environmental and energy justice initiatives. Demonstrate excellence in professional, interpersonal, and written communication.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Educational and Professional Experience: A master's degree or six years of professional experience in fields related to community development, environmental or social justice, business, public policy, or a closely related area is required. • The ability to facilitate groups or teach adult learners is also required.
  • Community Engagement: A strong background in working directly with rural, remote, underserved communities, and non-profit organizations is necessary. The candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of and commitment to environmental and energy justice issues affecting these communities.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Exceptional professional, interpersonal, and written communication skills are mandatory. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively across different levels of neighborhood, community, county, Tribal government, state, University, and national contexts.
