Overview

Utah State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS; https://www.usu.edu/aggiewellness/mental-health) is seeking a staff psychologist (Clinician II or Psychologist) to provide embedded services to the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education & Human Services (CEHS). This is a fulltime, benefited, 12-month position with an approximate 50/50 split time between CAPS and the embedded site. This position will be based on the USU-Logan campus. The start date is negotiable, preferably early summer and no later than mid-August. For best consideration, please apply by March 29. Responsibilities include providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, supervision and training, outreach, single-session therapy, and triage consultations. As the embedded clinician to CEHS, this position will provide consultations to departments, administrators, faculty, and staff within CEHS in order to address and support the unique needs of CEHS students. This includes providing therapeutic services to students in USU’s PhD program in clinical and counseling psychology, as well as graduate students from other programs in CEHS.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical services (65%) - Provide individual face-to-face and teletherapy psychotherapy, consultation, intake, and crisis interventions. May provide group therapy and/or psychoeducational assessments. Prepare for sessions and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical services.
  • Outreach services (15%) - Prepare for and provide outreach presentations and workshops. Serve on departmental, division, and university committees as needed. Build a strong collaborative relationship with assigned liaisons in CEHS.
  • Training services (5%) - When possible, provide individual and group clinical supervision and training of doctoral interns and/or undergraduate paraprofessionals. Review supervisees' clinical paperwork and session recordings. Evaluate supervisees and provide meaningful feedback, letters of recommendation, and training seminars.
  • Other professional responsibilities (15%) - Practice all responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws. Understand and comply with CAPS and university policies and procedures. Effectively participate in administrative and professional activities (e.g., CAPS staff and division meetings/trainings, case conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.). Foster excellent working relationships with co-workers, increase knowledge and develop new skills or abilities that contribute to effective service provision, contribute to the evaluation and improvement of CAPS, actively participate in CAPS’ efforts to serve all students, and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For hire as a Clinician II
    • A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program and eligible for licensure in Utah as a Psychologist within 1 year of hire date
  • For hire as a Psychologist
    • A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program and current Utah licensure as a Psychologist (or ability to secure license by hire date)
  • Experience in a university counseling setting and/or experience in areas strongly related to mental health needs in a college population (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety disorder, depressive disorders, personality disorders).
  • Generalist base of knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy), (i.e., theories, processes, and elements of therapeutic change) and familiarity with developmental and other non-medical models of treatment and supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing supervision.
  • Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops relevant to the campus community.
  • Experience and interest in conducting group therapy.
  • Experience with program development.
  • Fluency in language other than English.
  • Experience with psychoeducational assessment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first generation college students on a university campus.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook, Titanium, etc.)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and coordinate with CAPS clinicians and to work effectively as an independent and self-motivated, professional staff member.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem solving, decision-making skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is part of USU's Division of Student Affairs. CAPS has been accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) since 1996. Our mid-size team is composed of professionals from psychology, social work, and counseling. We have robust training programs, including a doctoral internship accredited by the American Psychological Association and practicum in clinical/counseling psychology.
