Overview

The College of Science Business Services Team seeks a Business Manager II to manage and coordinate the business operations of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Incumbent will provide and oversee all financial activities such as budget preparation and control, contract and grant accounting, service center accounting, personnel administration, transaction review and control, and financial reporting.

 

The Business Manager II reports to the College of Science Financial Officer and will work closely with the head, faculty and staff in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This role has three (3) direct reports and is expected to train and guide Business Services staff in the College of Science.

 

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a primary resource and business consultant to Department Head, faculty and business services staff in assigned areas.
  • Performs budget preparation, budget reconciliation, data management, and fiscal information support.
  • Oversees and manages daily activities, transactions, and policies/procedures covering financial areas such as purchasing/p-card, financial reporting/processing systems (Banner, Argos, ServiceNow), travel, cash handling, inventory, tuition awards/scholarships, graduate assistantships, contract process, and personnel functions (EPAF requests, leave management, salary/wage administration, department instructional payments etc).
  • Oversees financial compliance for multiple funding sources such as state funds, overhead, restricted, course fees, externally funded contracts/grants, endowments, and service centers.
  • Coordinates financial aspects of proposals, contracts, grants, etc. Assist staff in administering awards to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies.
  • Maintains comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of research administration and service center requirements and controls.
  • Generates monthly/annual reports of account budgets, expenditures and forecasting.
  • Trains, mentors and supervises Business Assistant(s).  Provides meaningful feedback and monthly check-ins.
  • Assists college Financial Officer in guiding the college business services team.  Provides training, helps resolve problems, creates new policies, procedures and best practices, etc.
  • Positively engages in department, college or university teams as requested to improve processes, implementation of new policies or systems, or researching issues/opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field plus three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous university experience with knowledge of USU policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of USU's Banner, AggieTime, EZBuy, and Argos, systems.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Direct experience with post-award contact and grant management
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Contributes positively and proactively in a team environment in order to meet unit goals
  • Provides proactive and excellent customer service to constituents at all levels
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong work ethic--commits to integrity and performs duties with diligence
  • Ability to take initiative
