Overview

Come join the College of Natural Resources’ Business Services team where you will play a crutial role in helping our executives, faculty, staff and students fulfill their roles in research, teaching, and extension programs to better understand natural ecosystems and to foster their sustainable use. We are seeking a Business Manager II to manage and coordinate the business operations of the college. Incumbent will oversee activities such as budget preparation and control, personnel administration, and financial management of service centers, contracts and grants.  The Business Manager II reports to the College’s Financial Officer. This position may supervise, train and guide other Business Services Staff.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a primary resource and business consultant to the units in the College of Natural Resources.
  • Oversees and manages daily activities and transactions within assigned area, including p-card, financial banner, travel, and personnel functions
  • Coordinates financial aspects of proposals, contracts, grants, etc. Assists staffs in administering proposals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies
  • Performs budget preparation, budget reconciliation, EPAF creation, data management, and fiscal information support
  • Manages and reconciles department accounts, grant/contract accounts, service enterprise accounts ensuring they are correct and compliant with USU policies and procedures
  • Generate monthly/annual reports of account budgets, expenditures and forecasting.
  • Trains, mentors and supervises Business Assistants, as assigned.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other colleges and departments regarding financial matters.
  • Reconciles and reviews financial statements to ensure accuracy.
  • Develops new concepts and approaches to issues.
  • Adapts procedures, processes, and tools to meet the more complex requirements of the position.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business field plus three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Banner finance system.
  • Familiar with USU Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of finance enterprise systems and software.
  • Computer skills, including Excel and Windows.
  • Knowledge of management reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to train and lead staff.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Skilled in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Expert knowledge of financial principles, practices, concepts, and that analysis of reports of financial data.
  • Within the scope and complexity of the position's responsibilities, possess and demonstrate the following abilities:
