Overview

The Facilities Service Representative III works under the direction of a Manager to coordinate and direct the activities of the USU Tooele Campus facility’s maintenance services to ensure campus facilities are property cleaned and maintained, maximizing a healthy, safe, pleasant and functional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct labor cleaning and maintenance duties as a working member of the department.
  • Ensures both the cleaning and maintenance of internal and external assigned facilities, including performing minor repairs to buildings and equipment such as tightening fasteners, replacing ceiling and floor tiles, maintaining lighting, making minor window adjustments, adjusting thermostats, unplugging toilets and drains, etc.
  • Performs basic, scheduled preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, campus vehicles and other motorized equipment.
  • Maintains a listing of preferred building contractors or service vendors and keeps records of all repair and maintenance activities including preventive maintenance work.
  • Conducts building audits and inspections to ensure that the quality of work done by contractors consistently meets established procedures, safety regulations and control standards.
  • Assists in completing the annual building self-inspection survey for Risk Management in Logan.
  • Organizes and coordinates building workloads, and implements core cleaning and specialist’s cleaning practices.
  • Coordinates set up and dismantling of furnishings for events.
  • Works with campus Director of Operations and the assigned Facilities Manager in Logan to outsource facilities maintenance and landscaping work as needed; schedules work by external contractors; monitors satisfactory completion of outsourced work.
  • Enforces proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and makes or recommends purchases to meet the needs of the area.
  • Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  • May train, coach, and inform temporary or hourly facilities maintenance employees on new work methods or procedures, safety regulations, work policies, codes, and standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of commercial cleaning experience is required.  Satisfactory completion of training in: safety, chemicals, equipment, MSDS, sexual harassment, blood borne pathogen, and Hantavirus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning supplies and application.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools and equipment used in routine building maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of safe grounds maintenance methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic building and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to use and care for hand and power tools used in custodial work.
  • Ability to learn and care for an assigned area and equipment.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
  • Ability to identify maintenance problems that need the attention of repair personnel.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to learn through observation and hands on experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions without close supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.

Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects.
