As part of Utah State University (USU) Libraries’ recent reorganization, we are opening multiple new positions, including our Digital Scholarship, Open Education, and Instructional Design Librarians. The Utah State University Libraries seeks a collaborative, innovative and user-centered candidate for the position of Digital Scholarship Librarian to join a team supporting our communities in discovering, creating, and sharing knowledge. The Digital Scholarship Librarian will further digital scholarship and literacy across the institution and provide support for a broad range of programs, tools, and services to facilitate innovative and interdisciplinary research.

 

Working with a team of librarians, the Digital Scholarship Librarian provides essential research support, instruction, and services that bolster robust digital research and learning and engagement with evolving technologies across all disciplines. Collaborating with library colleagues and groups across the university, this position will also help develop strategic initiatives and partnerships to promote and utilize the new Innovation Hub (opening fall 2024) including outreach and instruction with emerging research technologies. This position also engages with students and faculty as a member of a broadly-defined disciplinary library team.

 

We view emerging technologies as a vital component of USU’s land-and space-grant mission and the university’s continued success as a Carnegie R1 Research Institution. The Digital Scholarship Librarian will be a critical position to the libraries’ strategic growth and help envision exciting new initiatives at USU Libraries.

 

Reporting to the head of the Research Strategy and Innovation unit, the position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Support and mentorship are built into the tenure process. The estimated start date for the position is Summer 2024. Early career librarians are encouraged to apply.

 

Review of applications will begin on May 14th and the position will remain open until filled. Salary is minimum of $55,000, plus excellent benefits including a 14.2% (starting at $7,810) annual retirement contribution. Utah State University offers a competitive benefits package which includes medical and dental, and 22 days/year vacation. Responsibilities

  • Actively engage with faculty, students, and staff to promote the use of digital tools and technologies for teaching, research, and scholarly publishing, developing strong working relationships and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructors for research assignment design and the integration of digital tools and platforms, standards, and best practices.
  • Contribute to planning, outreach, instruction, and project development for the Libraries’ Innovation Hub.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and explore tools and methods related to emerging and innovative digital scholarship trends and publishing models.
  • Help to foster and sustain communities of practice centered around digital scholarship and emerging technologies and other topics relevant to USU researchers and instructors.
  • Engage in broad disciplinary research services through consultations and instruction as part of a team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLS, or international equivalent by August 2024.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to responding flexibly and effectively to the shifting needs and priorities of the Libraries and University’s constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in academic libraries
  • Experience supporting digital scholarship and emerging technologies
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Commitment to assisting individuals with a variety of levels of expertise and ability in their use and experimentation with technology.
  • Knowledge of or interest in the challenges and opportunities surrounding digital research tools and methodologies.
