Overview

Candidates must have a strong desire to push the boundaries of obtaining quality video content varying from short social media ads to more in-depth interviews, highlights and commercials. You will work on a team with photographers, videographers, designers, copywriters and marketing managers to be instrumental in providing exceptional video content. This position works within University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) and reports to the Director of Video & Imaging. The Videographer will be hired at either "Multimedia Specialist II" or "Multimedia Specialist SR" depending on qualifications - see Qualifications section below - and duties assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct shoots solo or as part of a team utilizing lighting, audio, and camera equipment to achieve consistent and quality results.
  • Communicate with marketing managers to identify clients’ needs and develop concepts for video production projects of varied duration and complexity.
  • Utilize workflow software, ClickUp, to manage all projects throughout the video production process.
  • Use file management best practices to maintain an organized server for projects and video.
  • Assist with photography in various aspects of shooting and post-production process.
  • Manage USU’s YouTube channel, ensuring all videos have a standardized title, description, caption and thumbnail; recommend, manage and shoot content for this channel.
  • Handle video requests from external groups on campus or media agencies and deliver the appropriate content.
  • Provide hands-on training, mentorship and resources to student workers, faculty and staff across campus working on independent video projects.
  • Drive forward creative video ideas, continually improve processes and contribute to a high-efficiency team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

This position will be hired as a Multimedia Specialist at either Level II or SR based upon qualifications and duties assigned:

  • Minimum qualifications for Multimedia Specialist II:
    • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required
  •  Minimum qualifications for Multimedia Specialist SR:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required
  • For all levels:
    • Must be able to provide an online video portfolio demonstrating a variety of shooting environments and styles
    • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of video codecs, compression techniques and best methods for delivering video content
    • Must be available to work non-traditional hours including some evenings and weekends for athletics and university events, as well as occasionally travel 3-4 nights at a time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) or more years of commercial video experience
  • Some higher education experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in utilizing graphics in video; motion graphic experience a plus
  • A love for capturing exceptional content
  • Experience with Mac OS and the operation of advanced editing software such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve
  • Experience operating drones

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to work with limited supervision
  2. Attentive to detail in communication, editing, and design
  3. Proven editing skills that demonstrate your ability to take on various projects
