Overview

A part-time non-benefited lab research technician position is available in the Wang lab in the Department of Animal, Dairy, and Vet Sciences at USU. Individuals with research experience in molecular biology, cellular biology and embryology are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day operations of a research laboratory focused on molecular/cellular biology, embryology, and genetic engineering research.
  • Laboratory animal (rodent) breeding, taking care of animals (including but not limited to changing cages, supplying foods, etc.), animal colony maintenance, and genotyping analysis.
  • Other types of animal handling, including surgeries, embryo transfer, and tissue collection
  • In vitro culture of animal cells, oocytes, and embryos
  • Assist lab manager and other lab personnel to order and receive laboratory supplies
  • Help to maintain lab (monitoring and maintaining lab equipment, general lab chores)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of research experience in a life science-related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent research skills in general biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, or embryology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Reliable, self-motivated, hard-working, and detail-oriented
  • Flexible with working schedules (animal breeding needs to be performed in early evenings, 6-8pm) or weekends
  • Passionate about the research in developing using animal models and care about the animals
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Being a great team player

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
