Overview

The Program Coordinator for Community Engagement and Campus Mentoring (Program Coordinator II) at the Uintah Basin Campus is responsible for stewardship of critical interactions with the larger Uintah Basin community and external stakeholders and partners. This position is the managing director of community engagement and the point person for the campus on boards and committees, as well as serving on assigned boards and community committees. The program coordinator will also develop and manage the day-to-day operations of staff, peer, and alumni mentoring initiatives that serve USU’s Uintah Basin campuses.

Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator for Community Engagement and Campus Mentoring may report to a Campus Administrator or Director of Programs. This classification may train and direct hourly or student employees, graduate students, and/or volunteers.

 

Community Engagement Program Support

  • Stewardship for external relations, communication, coordination, and strategic interactions with community and educational partners, stakeholders, and the community at large at events, on boards, and in service to the community, including but not limited to attending chamber, rotary, and school board meetings
  • Develops, plans, and is the campus lead on community-oriented campus events and activities, including but not limited to the monthly Speaker Series, Summer Concerts, Game Day, holiday cards, and community gifts
  • Provides stewardship and strategic planning for all alumni-related activities, support, and communication for the Uintah Basin, including working with Aggies in the Basin(regional alumni chapter) to plan and promote their annual activities and support their volunteer leadership team
  • Communicates with community groups and provides professional presentations on behalf of the Uintah Basin campus with the campus leadership and administration
  • Assists in planning and coordinating the day-to-day aspects of campus marketing and social media strategy on Facebook, Instagram, and my.usu
  • Coordinates and submits monthly newspaper articles
  • Co-coordinates campus completion engagement activities, internships, and work-study
  • Assists in the coordination and planning of local middle school science fair
  • Work with campus leadership to develop strategic outreach campaigns

Campus Mentoring Program

  • Co-develop and coordinate the day-to-day operations of additional mentoring initiatives on USU Uintah Basins campuses, focusing on
    • Staff-to-Student Mentoring
    • Peer-to-Peer Mentoring
    • Alumni-to-Student mentoring
  • Co-develop and implement training and training materials
  • Report frequently to the Director of Programs on program status and challenges
  • Attend monthly statewide mentoring steering committee meetings

Both Program Areas

  • Writes and/or assists with grants and proposals as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other fundraising activities
  • Provides updates and information to program stakeholders
  • Collects and analyzes data; prepares scheduled and special reports; maintains program records and statistical information to meet state and federal requirements
  • Analyzes problems and applies corrective action as needed
  • Ensures that programs are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
  • Monitors and administers program revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the program
  • May contribute to business and operational decisions that affect the department
  • May advise and advocate for students participating in the program
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to specific program.
  • Knowledge of research and information gathering methods and procedures.
  • If applicable, knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Program specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notices.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
