Overview

The Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) Department in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level to support and strengthen our programs, particularly in the areas of web/mobile application development, software and full-stack development, cloud computing, and enterprise systems. This academic-year (nine-month) faculty position will support the development and maintenance of programs of excellence in both teaching and research, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. Salary is competitive. An excellent benefits package includes retirement programs, life, medical, dental, and disability insurance.

Responsibilities

We seek an individual who shares our commitment to excellence and will help the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business achieve continued growth in our national reputation. The DAIS department is dynamic, hands-on, and student-focused. We emphasize experiential learning throughout our courses and particularly through the Analytics Solutions Center (ASC; see http://huntsman.usu.edu/asc/index). The ASC provides opportunities for students to work on cutting-edge projects with corporate partners and faculty mentors. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to outstanding teaching and mentoring, a dedication to the value of student success as our top priority, and a drive to adapt to the rapidly evolving information systems and tech environments in modern enterprise. They will also be recognized both within academia and the broader community as an ethical leader. It is expected that the applicant will be a highly productive researcher, maintain a presence as a leading scholar, and build strong networks with prominent individuals in academia, business, and government. Faculty in the Huntsman School of Business are also expected to provide leadership in their respective programs and to make meaningful contributions to the academic and professional communities.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for the Assistant Professor level:
  • PhD in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (ABD considered, but dissertation must be completed prior to appointment)
  • Highly effective communications skills, including listening, writing, and speaking
  • Demonstration of collegiality among peers and constituents
  • Strong commitment to outstanding undergraduate teaching and mentoring
  • Demonstration of teaching experience and effectiveness through student evaluations, peer evaluations, or achievement of learning outcomes
  • Ability to explain complex and technical concepts in an understandable way
  • Strong commitment to professional development and upskilling in the rapidly evolving tech and information systems environment
  • Evidence of established or emerging research stream(s) with publication potential in top-quality information systems or other tech-related journals
  • Willingness to serve colleagues and students through departmental, college, and university assignments
Preferred qualifications for the Assistant Professor level:
  • Background and experience in web/mobile app development, software development, and/or provisioning and managing cloud computing platforms
  • Industry experience in software development, particularly web/mobile application development
  • Expertise in provisioning and managing cloud computing platforms

 

Minimum and preferred qualifications for the Associate Professor level include those listed for the Assistant Professor level and also include:
  • At least five years of experience teaching and mentoring students in analytics, database management, programming, statistics, marketing analytics, and/or econometrics in a college or university setting.
  • An established research record commensurate with the rank of associate professor, with a demonstrated ability to publish in top-quality information systems or other tech-related journals.
  • Preferred: At least five years of applied professional experience with applied data analytics or data science within business, marketing, finance, or the public sector.
Minimum and preferred qualifications for the Professor level include those listed for the Associate Professor level and also include:
  • At least ten years of experience teaching and mentoring students in analytics, database management, programming, statistics, marketing analytics, and/or econometrics in a college or university setting.
  • An established research record commensurate with the rank of full professor, with a demonstrated ability to publish in top-quality information systems or other tech-related journals and a widely respected reputation in the area(s) of expertise.
  • Preferred: At least ten years of applied professional experience with applied data analytics or data science within business, marketing, finance, or the public sector.

The Department of Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) provides an outstanding opportunity for students to gain the skills and experience needed in an increasingly data-driven world, and to use information and data technologies to inform strategic decision-making in the private and public sectors. The DAIS department serves approximately 400 undergraduate information systems/data analytics majors and provides service courses to students throughout the Huntsman School of Business and the broader university community. The department also offers Master’s degree programs in Management Information Systems (MMIS) and Data Analytics (MDATA). Students in DAIS learn how to problem-solve with advanced database management, programming, and analytics tools, collaborating with faculty who are at the forefront of these fields. Students also have the opportunity to network and apply their learning in real-world settings, through internships, student clubs, and Huntsman School events. The Analytics Solutions Center housed within the DAIS department sponsors ongoing, faculty-mentored projects where students work on real-world data and systems problems for external partners and sponsors. These collaborations provide a key experiential opportunity for students to work on real-world analytics problems under the guidance of faculty and partner mentors.
