Overview

The Instructional Designer I position works within a team of designers to provide faculty and staff support for educational technologies; create, write, and maintains instructional materials; assist with the quality assurance and accessibility of course content; and provide group and one-on-one consultation and training.

Responsibilities

  1. Resolves technical concerns from faculty and staff via phone, chat, ticket, email, web conference, and in-person visit.
  2. Serves as subject matter expert in educational technologies for faculty and staff.
  3. Develops web-based training materials in written, video, and graphical formats.
  4. Conducts quality assurance and accessibility reviews for web-based content and implements fixes as needed after obtaining content owner permission.
  5. Trains faculty in their use of educational technologies via group workshops and individual consultations (meeting in-person and via web conferencing).
  6. Assists faculty in the creation and maintenance of course content and multimedia.
  7. Performs front-end systems administration tasks in the learning management system and other educational technology tools.
  8. Maintains records of support and development transactions for invoicing and project management purposes.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, experience design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Professional experience providing customer support and/or systems administration
  • Demonstrated experience creating quality instructional materials for real world clients
  • Experience working with learning management systems and web-based applications commonly used for education (i.e. web conferencing, video capture and hosting, and assessment authoring)
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and modern webdesign practices
  • Familiarity with principles of web accessibility
  • Familiarity with foundational principles of learning and models of instructional design
  • Skill with computer software, operating systems, web browsers, and office software
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, experience design, or a related field
