Overview

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Utah State University (USU) seeks to hire a Professional Practice Assistant Professor in Sport Management.  The highly qualified candidate will have had experiences within professional and educational settings.  The position will primarily support the master's degree in Sport Management and the undergraduate program emphasis in Sport Management at USU. 

 

The successful candidate for the position will demonstrate a passion for the field of sport management, have professional experiences within the field, the ability to collaborate with industry professionals and have the desire to advance student learning and development through excellent teaching and mentorship. Teaching responsibilities will be dispersed across the academic year and will occur both in online and face-to-face environments.  The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with university colleagues and professional organizations.

 

This position will be physically located at the USU main campus in Logan with a 90% role assignment in teaching and a 10% role assignment in service. This is a 1.0 FTE, term appointment, nine-month academic year position that is fully benefited. With strong performance by the candidate and healthy program enrollments, the position will be renewable annually.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellence and expertise in teaching a variety of courses in Sport Management at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Provide mentorship to students and assist in the coordination of professional experiences and opportunities for students.
  • Form connections and collaborate with community and industry partners in ways that enrich the Sport Management program and contribute to its success.
  • Provide meaningful department, university, and professional service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s in sport management or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in sport management or an affiliated field at the time of appointment.
  • Experience teaching in the online environment.
  • Industry-related experience in sport management or a related field.
  • A commitment to collaboration and collegiality among peers and constituents.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate excellence in teaching courses in sport management and related disciplines both online and face-to-face.
  • Ability to bring professional experiences into the learning environment to enhance the professional preparation of students.
  • Ability to be an effective student mentor.
  • Ability to contribute to the university and the sport management field through academic, professional, and public outreach and engagement.
  • Ability to work with partners to create innovative co-curricular professional learning experiences for students.
