Overview

The Department of Marketing, Strategy, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship (MSLE) in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University invites applications for a full-time, fiscal year (12-month), term appointment as a lecturer in entrepreneurship at the Utah State University, Uintah Basin Campus located in Vernal, Utah. The successful candidate will play a key role in growing entrepreneurship programs, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities in the Uintah Basin. This individual will also support the Bingham Entrepreneurship Center in enhancing entrepreneurial education and community engagement across Utah State University campuses.

 

The search committee will begin considering applications on January 15, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applications should be submitted as soon as possible. It is anticipated the successful candidate will begin their appointment on July 15, 2025.

Responsibilities

The Lecturer will primarily teach courses in entrepreneurship, with potential teaching assignments in marketing, leadership, or strategy, depending on departmental needs. The standard teaching load for this position is 12 credits per semester (fall, spring, and summer), totaling 36 credits annually. However, the teaching load may be adjusted to facilitate active engagement in a range of entrepreneurship initiatives, including significant student mentoring, overseeing the Bingham Entrepreneurship Center, and participating in community outreach efforts.

 

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will provide:

  • Mentorship & Student Support: Provide mentorship to student entrepreneurs by offering guidance on business development, reviewing business plans, and helping students connect with industry professionals and investors.
  • Program Leadership: Lead and expand the activities of the Bingham Entrepreneurship Center and build relationships with local businesses to strengthen the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Experiential Learning: Organize and lead experiential learning opportunities such as workshops, pitch competitions, and hackathons. Facilitate student participation in regional and national entrepreneurship competitions.
  • Community Engagement: Develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create opportunities for student internships, externships, and consulting projects. Foster a network of business contacts to support entrepreneurial growth in the community.
  • Student Club Advising: Advise student-led entrepreneurship clubs, organizing events that promote innovation and leadership.
  • Statewide Engagement: Participate in statewide entrepreneurship initiatives, ensuring that students in the Uintah Basin have access to resources and opportunities provided by the Center for Entrepreneurship in the Huntsman School of Business.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD or master’s degree in business or a related field, with a background in entrepreneurship. University-level teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience as a mentor, advisor, and role model to students.
  • Leadership experience in a startup, small business, or rapidly growing company.
  • Experience creating new products, services, or company divisions.
  • A strong commitment to working with students and the community on entrepreneurship initiatives.
  • A strong commitment to engage in student case competitions, club involvement and advising, student mentorship, and student placement.
  • A strong commitment to stay current and professionally qualified in the field.
  • Experience teaching in a university setting.
