Overview

The Director of Operations and Assistant Coach (Athletic Operations Coordinator II) for Utah State Women’s Volleyball is a key contributor to the success of the program, providing both logistical and administrative support as well as on-court coaching. This individual must be highly organized, adaptable, and capable of effective communication with diverse audiences. The position involves handling the operational aspects of the program while assisting in the training, mentoring, and development of student-athletes under the direction of the Head Coach.

Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee the scheduling and operations of team practices, visiting team logistics, and home game logistics.
  • Manage team communication, scheduling, and organization using Teamworks or similar platforms.
  • Coordinate all team travel logistics, including transportation, accommodations, and meals for a 20+ person travel party.
  • Provide logistical support for recruiting travel for coaches, ensuring compliance with NCAA and university policies.
  • Create and manage the volleyball program's operational budget, including forecasting and expense tracking.
  • Oversee purchases, contractual agreements, and associated budgets for camps and clinics.
  • Serve as the program’s point of contact for various departments, including:
    • Ticket Office
    • Equipment Manager
    • Facilities Management
    • Marketing
    • Event Management
    • Travel Coordination
    • Media Relations
    • Information Technology
    • Compliance Office

Administrative Duties

  • Liaison with the Utah State University Athletics Business Office to track expenditures and manage expense reports.
  • Maintain updated roster and contact information for current and past players.
  • Coordinate onboarding for newly hired coaches and manage transitions for departing staff.
  • Organize and coordinate staff meetings and special projects as assigned.

Team Travel

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of team travel within the approved budget, including flights, hotels, buses, and meals.
  • Ensure proper communication of travel itineraries and adherence to NCAA policies for travel pass lists.
  • Distribute per diem funds and oversee expense reporting for team trips.

Facilities and Equipment

  • Schedule team meetings, practices, and facility needs in coordination with the Events staff.
  • Organize and maintain locker room assignments and equipment inventory.

Assistant Coach Duties

  • On-Court Coaching:
    • Assist in planning and conducting practices, drills, and conditioning sessions.
    • Provide individualized skill development and feedback for athletes.
    • Support the development and implementation of game strategies.
  • Recruiting:
    • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
    • Develop relationships with recruits, coaches, and parents through calls, emails, and visits.
    • Ensure all recruiting activities comply with NCAA and institutional regulations.
  • Mentorship and Player Development:
    • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
    • Monitor academic progress and provide support for student-athletes in collaboration with academic advisors.
    • Address player concerns and contribute to their holistic development.
  • Other Duties:
    • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, strategy sessions, and film reviews.
    • Represent the program at university and athletic department events.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Experience as a staff member in the areas of operations or coaching.
  • Technical proficiency.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Utah State University Intercollegiate Athletics Core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Diversity, Creativity, Accountability and Loyalty.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in volleyball coaching or operations, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Experience with NCAA Division I Intercollegiate programs.
  • Knowledge of NCAA compliance regulations.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.  This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.  This position requires standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead. 

 

This position requires frequent travel, evening and weekend availability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
