Overview

The Digital Accessibility Coordinator (Program Coordinator I) will assist the Digital Accessibility Officer in coordinating digital accessibility activities across the university. The role will help implement digital accessibility best practices across multiple digital experiences including university video platforms, social media channels, learning management system(s), and the web content management system. This position will work with faculty and staff across the university to help support and improve campus digital accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in meeting policies and standards such as the Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Standards and the USU Video and Audio Accessibility Standard.
  • Audit content for accessibility such as websites, documents, videos, and other digital content.
  • Coordinate and train student employees and others involved in maintaining digital content.
  • Develop relationships with faculty and staff, and help apply accessibility best practices for their content areas.
  • Assist in promotional efforts to ensure awareness of standards and resource materials.
  • Help identify, catalog, and update inventories of digital content including the relevant staff responsible for that content.
  • Maintain and update materials on the department website.
  • Aid in creating and maintaining reports, specifically for caption expenditures.
  • Develop relationships with vendors and system administration.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree plus two years of related work experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required (i.e. Special Education, Technical Communication, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related field).
  • Evidence of good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g., WCAG, Section 508, ADA)
  • Experience with digital accessibility tools like screen readers, accessibility checkers, and captioning software.
  • Commitment to professional development in keeping up to date with new accessibility technologies, standards, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with HTML.

  • Ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills in working with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a professional team.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships across campus constituencies.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn basic HTML.
  • Ability to quickly learn and troubleshoot new technologies.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in multiple areas and be involved in many projects.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
