Overview

The Department of Computer Science, in the College of Science at Utah State University (USU), invites applications for a Temporary Instructor position at the Logan campus. This is a two-year position that will begin in August 2025, with the potential for a permanent role based on funding and performance. The department is interested in fusing innovative teaching and learning pedagogies to develop foundational computer science curriculum in multiple delivery methods including face-to-face, broadcast, online, and blended formats.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding potential for student engagement, leadership in undergraduate or graduate course development, excellence in teaching and mentoring, and complement the Computer Science department's current educational strengths.

 

Teaching responsibilities include delivering undergraduate courses in multiple delivery methods (face-to-face, broadcast, online, and blended formats) to both lower-level and upper-level undergraduates and non-traditional students. Course mastery is sought in several of the following areas: Python, Java, C++, web applications, cloud computing, mobile applications, desktop GUI development, UI/UX design, operating systems, software engineering, programming language, and compiler construction. The Department of Computer Science is especially interested in candidates committed to fostering inclusive learning environments, developing student outcomes and assessments, as well as promoting an environment of diversity and excellence through service, teaching, and research.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
  • Ability to serve as a mentor, advisor, and role model to students
  • Ability to work productively and cooperatively with colleagues
  • Excellent oral, written, and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline (to be considered as a Temporary Assistant Professor)
  • Successful prior teaching experience
  • Successful prior online or distance education experience
  • Experience with different learning technologies
