Overview

Incumbents in the Equipment Operator series operate a variety of heavy equipment including roll off trucks, garbage trucks, Tractors, backhoes, delivery trucks, conveyor belts, compactors and fork lifts. Incumbents in this position (Equipment Operator III) are responsible for picking up material to be recycled, processed and sold. The Incumbent is responsible for the general pick up of all recycled material on campus, knowledge of pick-up routes, and general cleaning. The employee maintains public recycling drop-off areas and cages for continued use. They work as a member of the Resource and Recovery team and will help other areas of the department to accomplish goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages the pickup of all recyclable materials for recycling throughout campus.
  • Delivers material to the recycling center and places material into proper storage units.
  • Helps in the processing of recyclable material, which includes but is not limited to sorting material, baling material and transporting material.
  • Works around and operates machinery including forklifts, conveyors, compactors, etc.
  • Supervises drop-off area and clean up as necessary.
  • Creates relationships with building managers and FM crew members in charge of recycling in their respective areas.
  • Maintains roll off cages of recyclable material.
  • Helps maintain cleanliness of the recycling center and areas throughout campus.
  • Serve as backup garbage truck driver.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of related work experience
  • Willingness to obtain Forklift certification
  • Willingness to obtain class B CDL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possesses a class B CDL
  • Experienced in Recycling work environment
  • Experienced with operating heavy equipment and machinery

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety, loading, and maintenance procedures.
  • Skill in organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to organize work flow to produce the most efficient productivity.
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with co-workers, campus customers, and the public.
  • Ability to prioritize work and accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
