The Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate (PSC) in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University (USU) invites applicants for an academic year (9-month) tenure-track faculty position in small grains plant breeding and genetics at a rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment is 70% research, 25% teaching, and 5% service.   We seek a colleague who will lead a research program using current technology in plant genetics and breeding towards dwarf bunt resistance and other biotic and abiotic stress resistances related to climate resilience, who will develop genetically improved lines of wheat and barley adapted to dryland and irrigated small grain-growing regions of Utah and surrounding states including Idaho and other Pacific Northwest states. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally funded, nationally recognized research program in plant breeding and genetics and contribute to teaching in PSC with an undergraduate class in plant breeding and an additional undergraduate or graduate class in their area of expertise. Course assignments may change based on curriculum needs. The Department of Veterinary Clinical and Life Sciences (VCLS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a FY 12-month, 0.75 -1.0 FTE (negotiable) Professional Practice Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Professional Skills Instruction position (non-tenure track) with an assignment of 95% teaching and 5% service. This candidate will play a pivotal role in introducing students to the knowledge, skills, attitudes, attributes, abilities, and behaviors (KSAAABs) tied to the development of their professional identity as future veterinarians. The candidate is expected to design, develop, and deliver hands-on professional skills-related courses in the new Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree curriculum that center around three programmatic learning outcomes for students: 1) personal and professional communication skills; 2) practice management and career development skills; and 3) personal and professional development skills. Course development is intended to support the spectrum of new graduate competencies that include veterinary-client-patient centered interactions, alternate career paths, human and financial resources, policy development, welfare and wellbeing, ethical reasoning, and other KSAAABs. The candidate is also expected to develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and evaluation criteria to measure veterinary students’ professional skills integration and proficiency. This candidate will also contribute to other curriculum activities associated with their expertise. Currently, the USU CVM participates in a “2+2” program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington – Idaho – Montana – Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine that provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022 the State of Utah approved the establishment of a full 4-year DVM degree program at USU with the goal of admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and hosting a class of 80 veterinary students beginning in the fall of 2026. This position offers multiple opportunities for professional development in instruction, curriculum design, and innovative teaching methods. Instructor may teach 4+ days a week depending on program needs and instructor availability. Instructors need to be available from 3:00-6:00 on days they are teaching M-Th and 12:00-1:30 p Friday. Pay is based on qualifications - Starting at $8 per hour. Up to $12 per hour.

The Anthropology Program at USU seeks a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology for a (9 month), full-time appointment beginning August 1, 2024. We seek applicants who study contemporary human biological variation with potential research foci on: Nutrition, fertility, stress, biodemography, genetics, infectious disease, health disparities, or microbiome research. We seek applicants with a strong record of research, publication, and the integration of their research interests with teaching. The successful applicant will teach a 2/3 course load (on-line and face-to-face courses) including: Introduction to Biological Anthropology, Perspectives on Race, and Sex, Evolution, and Health. Other courses will be determined based upon department needs and candidate research interests.
