The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a 12-month (fiscal year) tenure-track faculty position in Food Animal Production that will contribute to the Extension (70%), Teaching (25%), and Service (5%) missions of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) at USU. The successful candidate will be responsible for statewide educational and service programs that support small acreage or small-scale animal production operations (e.g., annual gross cash farm income <$350,000), focusing on livestock meat production, such as beef cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. These programs and support services should address needs in managing animal health, welfare, nutrition, and reproduction, as well as managing farm operations (e.g., sustainable practices, waste handling, new technologies, and operation scaling). The successful candidate will also develop programs and engage in outreach to help these producers meet growing market demands through fostering innovation, promoting entrepreneurship, creating value-added products, and expanding niche markets for the livestock industry. In addition to conducting educational outreach programs through traditional channels such as seminars, workshops, one-on-one consultations, Extension Fact Sheets, and bulletins/handbooks, newer methodologies should be utilized, such as distance education (e.g., interactive video conferencing) or electronic/social media (e.g., blogs, webinars, developing and expanding online learning courses/tools, etc.) to broaden the impact and reach of Extension training. The incumbent will be expected to remain current with innovations relevant to food animal production – particularly livestock – including interpretation of original research involving reproduction, breeding/genetics, nutrition, management, economics, etc., and determine how such novel information applies to small-scale Utah agricultural animal producers.    Excellence in teaching and mentorship is highly valued at USU. The successful candidate will be expected to teach ADVS courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, such as ADVS 5080/6080 Beef Cattle Management and ADVS 1100 Small Scale Animal Production.  The teaching assignment will be determined based on the department's needs and the successful applicant's expertise. The Department of Wildland Resources (WILD) in the S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Natural Resources (QCNR) at Utah State University (USU) seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor to serve as the Extension Specialist in Urban Forestry for Utah.  The position will be based on the main USU campus in Logan, Utah, and will also have access to the USU Extension Office at the USU Botanical Center in Kaysville, Utah, which houses Utah’s largest Arboretum. The anticipated (but negotiable) start date is August 1, 2024. The emphasis for the position is 90% Extension, 10% Service.  The position may be filled as: 1) A tenure-track Assistant Professor for a fiscal year reduced FTE (0.83 FTE or 10 months) position, with the successful candidate encouraged to write grants to support an additional 0.17 FTE.  This position would require a PhD. Candidates in a  PhD program who are ABD may be hired at the rank of Instructor if conferral of degree is expected within the year. 2) A Professional Practice Assistant Professor at 1.0 FTE. This position would require a M.S. degree and extensive professional work experience related to urban forestry.  In either appointment, the salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and is anticipated to be between $60,000 and $80,000. A basic annual operations budget will also be provided and can be augmented through grantwriting. Key areas of expertise will include urban and wildland-urban interface forestry, arboriculture, disease and risk management, water-wise landscaping, greenspace management, and horticulture. We anticipate that the person in this position may also be involved in urban planning efforts which consider broad social access to tree cover and carbon sequestration issues related to urban forestry. The incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with research and Extension faculty in the Departments of Wildland Resources (particularly extension specialists in forestry and wildland fire) and Environment and Society in QCNR and the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The incumbent will coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to identify and implement programs such as Utah Forestry Fire and State Lands urban forestry initiatives, Utah Division of Water Resources conservation programs, U. S. The Department of History at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month position at the rank ofAssistant Professor, in the history of Africa, beginning August 2024. The period and region of specialization are open, but with preference for scholars whose work focuses on sub-Saharan Africa. The successful applicant will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate curricula; this will include teaching an African history survey and either half of the World History surveys. We welcome candidates who can also contribute to one or more of the department’s other areas of emphasis, including Public History, Religious Studies, Classics, and Peace Studies. USU is an R1 university with a teaching mission, and so the department seeks a colleague who can show evidence of both scholarly productivity and teaching effectiveness. This is a research-focused position that typically has a teaching load of two courses per semester.

The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a 12-month (fiscal year) tenure-track faculty position in Beef Cattle Extension that will contribute to the Extension (70%), Research (25%), and Service (5%) missions of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) at USU. The successful candidate will be responsible for statewide educational programs that focus on the needs of Utah beef cattle producers. Working with Utah’s beef cattle industry leaders, the incumbent will help address ongoing and new challenges that impact the profitability of the beef cattle industry in Utah. In addition to conducting educational outreach programs through traditional channels such as seminars, workshops, one-on-one consultations, Extension Fact Sheets, and bulletins/handbooks, newer methodologies should be utilized, such as distance education (e.g., interactive video conferencing) or electronic/social media (e.g., blogs, webinars, developing and expanding online learning courses/tools, etc.) to broaden the impact and reach of Extension training. The incumbent will be expected to remain current with innovations relevant to the beef cattle industry, including interpretation of original research involving reproduction, breeding/genetics, nutrition, management, economics, etc., and determine how such novel information applies to Utah beef cattle producers including cow-calf, purebred, and feedlot operations.   The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original, applied research in beef cattle production science that complements his/her extension programs and addresses information gaps of particular importance to Utah’s beef cattle industry, including disciplines of nutrition, genetics/genomics, breeding, reproduction, cow/calf production, or animal welfare. Research results should be published in refereed journals and Extension or popular press publications. The incumbent will be expected to successfully compete for external funding to support their research and Extension activities.   Service will be expected on relevant departmental, college, university, and industry committees, and the incumbent will serve in an advisory capacity in the management of the USU Beef Center. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a Criminal Justice faculty position (tenure-track assistant professor or term appointment lecturer). The position is located at the USU Campus in Blanding, Utah. We particularly seek applications from individuals with criminal justice teaching experience at the university level.   This is a nine-month appointment with USU's sociology program, beginning August of 2024. The sociology program offers a BS/BA in Criminal Justice. The position has a role assignment of 75% teaching and advising, 15% research and/or creative endeavors, and 10% service. Requirements include the ability to teach undergraduate criminal justice/sociology courses, with preference in juvenile justice and family law. Instruction is delivered by a variety of methods (e.g. face-to-face, internet video broadcast, and online). Use of an internet-based learning management system is expected.
