The Conover Lab at Utah State University is looking for a full-time Avian Ecology technician to assist a PhD student with point counts of waterfowl and shorebirds as well as other aspects of a waterbird bioenergetics study focused on Great Salt Lake Wetlands. All work will be based out of Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Fieldwork will take place at several Wildlife Management Areas around Ogden, Salt Lake City, and at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge outside of Brigham City, Utah. The Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate (PSC) seeks applicants for a fiscal-year, .917 FTE (11-month) tenure-track faculty position in fruit production. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an Extension and research program with a primary focus in fruit crop production systems in Utah reflecting Utah State University’s land grant mission. The position will have a role assignment of 70% Extension, 25% research, and 5% service. The position would be based on the USU main Logan campus in the heart of beautiful Cache Valley.
Utah’s fruit industry includes over 8,000 acres of commercial orchards (tart cherry, peach and apple); as well as small-acreage, direct-market producers of raspberry, blackberry and strawberry. There is also expanding interest in urban production, and alternative crops (native fruits and cold hardy nuts) for diversification opportunities. Adapting to the ever-increasing limitations of water, land, and climate to maintain farm sustainability and viability are key challenges. USU is seeking an individual to provide leadership and support for Extension outreach and applied research that will meet these, and other emerging needs of Utah’s fruit industry.

The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards is seeking applicants for a Student Conduct Coordinator position. The incumbent will serve as the primary coordinator for Residence Life misconduct that is also a Student Code of Conduct violation. The Coordinator will provide support to students and staff for behavior conflict resolution with the goal of ensuring a safe and respectful campus living environment. The Coordinator will focus on student accountability, education, student development, and community safety and well-being.
Secondarily, the Coordinator will assist, investigate, and adjudicate allegations of student misconduct; this includes cases involving student organizations, serious violations of Residence Life policies, and academic and behavioral misconduct by individuals.
The Coordinator is an integral part of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and the ideal candidate in this role should have a welcoming and professional presence that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and thoughtfulness. USU Extension in Iron County is seeking a creative and positive person to support programming efforts and general operations as a Staff Assistant II. Hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm in the USU Extension Office in Cedar City. This is a full-time benefited position. Utah State University’s Department of Plants, Soils and Climate seeks applications for a full-time 9 month tenure-track faculty position as a Controlled-environment agriculture Assistant Professor.
The successful applicant of this research (65%), teaching (30%), and service (5%) position will develop a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program that integrates basic and applied science to develop and optimize controlled environment production systems for high value crops. Teaching is a vital part of this position, and the successful applicant will teach courses in whole-plant physiology and production of high value vegetables.
Areas of emphasis could include: the development of technologies and cultural practices that reduce water use and improve water use efficiency, increase production efficiency and product quality, optimize mineral nutrition using hydroponics and soilless substrates, optimize CO2 enrichment, advanced lighting technologies, and the identification and selection of novel high-value crops with relevance to Utah producers. This position offers the opportunity to cooperate with our 40-year legacy of NASA-funded research on food production for deep space missions, which have direct implications for food production on Earth.

The Department of Geosciences and the Ecology Center at Utah State University (USU), Logan, invites applications for an academic-year (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor position in interdisciplinary Critical Zone Geosciences, anticipated to begin August 2024. We seek candidates who conduct innovative, interdisciplinary, and quantitative investigation of critical zone (CZ) processes using field, laboratory, experimental, and/or computational methods to address issues of societal importance. Disciplinary expertise may include but is not limited to understanding CZ processes involved in soil production from bedrock, ecological impacts of mineral dust, geomicrobiology, carbon cycling and sequestration, pathways of water, responses to climate change and human impacts, and at the intersections between these areas.
