Overview

At Create Better Health Hub, our mission is to strengthen food and nutrition security systems and empower Utahns at every stage of life to make healthier choices. We accomplish this by building strong networks, advancing community-centered research, expanding the nutrition workforce, delivering evidence-based education, sharing impactful stories, and supporting sustainable community solutions.

 

We are seeking a qualified individual for an 8-week internship (20 hours per week) starting as early as May 18, 2026, to automate Microsoft workflows across the Create Better Health Hub.

 

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building systems, improving efficiency, and creating solutions that have immediate, real-world impact across a statewide program. Applicants should be prepared to share examples of workflows, automations, or systems they have built or contributed to (screenshots, descriptions, or brief demonstrations welcome).

Responsibilities

Workflow Assessment & Process Mapping

  • Identify and document existing administrative, programmatic, and communication workflows across the team
  • Analyze current processes to identify inefficiencies, redundancies, and opportunities for automation
  • Meet with staff to gather requirements and understand workflow needs
  • Prioritize automation opportunities based on impact, feasibility, and time constraints

Automation Development

  • Design, build, and test automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate
  • Develop automations across Microsoft platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Forms
  • Build workflows such as:
    • Request other form intakes moved into tracking and routing systems
    • Approval workflows
    • Automated notifications and reminders
    • Document and file management automations
    • Professional development attendance trackers
    • Task and tracker integrations
  • Troubleshoot and refine workflows to ensure reliability and usability

System Implementation & Testing

  • Pilot automations with staff and gather feedback
  • Iterate and improve workflows based on user experience and performance
  • Ensure automations are user-friendly and aligned with team processes
  • Support rollout of completed automations across the team

Documentation & Training

  • Develop clear, step-by-step documentation for each automation created
    Create simple user guides and reference materials for staff
  • Provide basic training or walkthroughs to team members on how to use automated systems
  • Ensure systems are sustainable and maintainable after internship completion

Strategic Recommendations

  • Develop a prioritized list of future automation opportunities
  • Create a simple roadmap for continued automation and system improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve data tracking, reporting, and operational efficiency
  • Recommend best practices for standardizing workflows across the organization

Qualifications

Technical and Analytical Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with building or supporting automated workflows, especially with Microsoft Power Automate (academic, professional, or personal projects acceptable)
  • Ability to analyze workflows and identify opportunities for automation
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to map out multi-step processes
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug automation errors or broken flows
  • Demonstrated ability to think logically and apply rule-based decision making
  • Strong working knowledge Microsoft 365 programs
  • Experience using Microsoft Forms and/or Microsoft Lists to collect and manage data
  • Familiarity with the coordination, ownership, and accessibility between programs (Outlook, Sharepoint, PowerAutomate, Teams, etc. )
  • Ability to work across systems and connect workflows between platforms (e.g., email, forms, file storage, task tracking)

Organization and Communication Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills, including documentation and tracking of processes
  • Ability to follow through on projects from concept to implementation within a short timeframe (2 months)
  • Ability to clearly document workflows and create simple instructions for non-technical users
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to gather requirements from staff and translate them into technical solutions

  • Interest in improving operational efficiency and reducing manual workload
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of program staff
