Overview

The Transfer Pathways Student Success Advisor serves as a dedicated bridge between Utah’s technical colleges and Utah State University, connecting students at every stage of their educational journey to the degree pathways, resources, and people who can help them succeed. This is a high-touch, student-centered role focused on guiding prospective, current, and transferring technical college students toward stackable degree options, from technical certificates to associate degrees, and from associate degrees to bachelor’s degrees. Rather than functioning as a traditional academic advisor, this position acts as a facilitator and connector, building relationships, removing barriers, and linking students to the advisors, departments, and institutional resources that will help them achieve their goals. The Transfer Pathways Student Success Advisor is an advocate for students, for stackable degree programs, and for the partnerships that make transfer possible.

This position is based at the Salt Lake Center, with travel required for key meetings and events at Utah technical college campuses and other USU statewide campus locations.

Responsibilities

Student Connection and Navigation (~70%)

  • Serves as a welcoming bridge for technical college students including prospective students, currently enrolled students, and those considering transfer who are exploring pathways to associate and bachelor’s degrees at USU.
  • Provides high-touch, one-on-one guidance to help students understand available stackable degree pathways, including certificate-to-associate and associate-to-bachelor’s degree options.
  • Proactively reaches out to students early in their technical programs so they are aware of their options before, during, and after completing a technical certificate.
  • Guides students through the initial stages of the transfer and articulation process, connecting them to academic advisors, the Registrar’s Office, and enrollment services teams for formal credit evaluation and degree planning.
  • Assists students in navigating university systems, processes, and resources, serving as an advocate throughout their transition from technical education to university study.
  • Maintains confidentiality and handles student records and interactions in compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Maintains documentation of student interactions and tracks key success metrics including students supported, transfer yield, credit retention, and student satisfaction.

Relationship Management and Partnership (~15%)

  • Serves as the primary liaison and relationship broker between USU and all Utah Technical Colleges and other institutions offering technical certificates, fostering ongoing partnerships that support student transfer.
  • Connects and collaborates with USU Admissions, Recruitment, and Enrollment Services teams to ensure students have a clear and supported pathway into the university.
  • Builds and maintains working relationships with Statewide Student Services teams across USU campuses to ensure consistent support for students regardless of their location.
  • Partners with Academic Departments, Colleges, and Academic Advisors to facilitate timely connections for students who are ready to begin formal degree planning and credit evaluation.
  • Collaborates with the Registrar’s Office to support smooth credit articulation processes, acting as a facilitator and connector rather than as the final authority on credit transfer or plans of study.
  • Contributes to the identification and growth of articulated pathways between technical programs and USU degree programs.
  • Assists with coordination efforts that support articulation awareness, student services alignment, and cross-campus collaboration.

Outreach and Program Promotion (~10%)

  • Represents USU’s stackable degree programs at technical colleges, community events, and informational sessions, communicating the value and accessibility of transfer pathways to a wide range of audiences.
  • Develops and delivers presentations and informational materials that clearly explain transfer options, degree stackability, and the support available through USU.
  • Participates in recruitment and outreach initiatives in coordination with Admissions and Enrollment Services.
  • Contributes to special projects related to transfer, transition, and student success initiatives.

Other Responsibilities (~5%)

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials

  • Familiarity with higher education systems related to admissions, transfer, and student services.
  • Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Experience collaborating across institutions or departments.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills, especially in presenting a positive message to groups and in one-on-one settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build trusting, positive relationships across diverse student populations and institutional partners.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present clearly and compellingly to both individuals and groups.
  • Ability to navigate and facilitate connections across complex institutional environments, including multiple campuses, departments, and partner organizations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and across institutional boundaries.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, including adult learners, workforce education students, and first-generation college students.
