Estimated Hours: Approximately 11 hours total across four community events

The HEART Social Connection Coordinator will support Utah State University Extension's Health Extension: Advocacy, Research, and Teaching (HEART) Initiative in implementing Rural Connections: Bringing Community Together Through Crafting, a community-based initiative designed to increase social connection, foster belonging, and promote health and wellness.

Working in partnership with the Price City Library and other local organizations, the coordinator will assist with planning and facilitating four Community Craft Night events. The position will help create welcoming and inclusive opportunities for adults and older youth of all abilities to gather, learn new skills, build relationships, and connect with community resources.

Position start date is flexible.

• Assist with planning, coordination, setup, and cleanup for four Community Craft Night events.
• Plan and facilitate engaging, hands-on activities that promote creativity, conversation, and social connection.
• Welcome and engage participants in a friendly, inclusive, and supportive manner.
• Encourage positive social interaction, relationship-building, and community engagement among attendees.
• Provide basic instruction and assistance with planned craft or creative activities.
• Assist with incorporating educational information related to social connection, mental wellness, healthy coping strategies, and community resources.
• Support participant registration, attendance tracking, and post-event evaluation activities.
• Assist with distributing information about local resources and opportunities for continued community involvement.
• Coordinate collaborative community outreach and volunteer opportunities for local health and wellness organizations.
• Collaborate with USU Extension faculty and staff, Price City Library personnel, and other community partners.
• Assist with event logistics and other duties necessary to support successful implementation of the project.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

• Dependable, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

   

• The HEART Social Connection Coordinator will play an important role in helping community members gather, create, connect, and build a stronger sense of belonging within Price City.

Work Environment:
Work will primarily take place in a community-based public setting, such as the Price City Library or USU Extension classrooms, during scheduled Community Craft Night events. The position will involve working with community members, USU Extension staff, library personnel, and community partners in a group environment. Occasional evening or after-hours work may be required to accommodate community programming. The work environment is generally indoors and climate-controlled, with typical activity and noise levels associated with public community events.

Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to move throughout the event space, assist with setup and cleanup, arrange tables and chairs, transport and organize lightweight program materials and craft supplies, and participate in hands-on activities. The coordinator may occasionally need to lift, carry, or move supplies weighing approximately 20–25 pounds. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands for craft-related activities for periods of time. Reasonable accommodations may be provided as appropriate.

Mental Demands:
The position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact positively with individuals of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The coordinator must be able to facilitate group activities, respond appropriately to participant questions or needs, follow established program procedures, manage multiple tasks during events, and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment. The position requires attention to detail, organization, adaptability, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Extension staff and community partners.

The Health Extension: Advocacy, Research, and Teaching Initiative, also known as HEART is an initiative through Utah State University Extension.
