The Department of History at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month position at the rank of Assistant Professor in United States history, with additional expertise in Utah history. The successful applicant will teach the following courses, among others: “United States 1877-Present” (HIST 2710), “Utah History” (HIST 3850), “Career Pathways for History Majors and Minors” (HIST 3001), and upper-division courses in their area(s) of specialization. The department seeks a colleague who can show evidence of teaching excellence, along with experience mentoring students in career development. Teaching is the primary focus of this position, and the faculty member will be responsible for teaching six courses per year (face-to-face and online), while also running our department’s internship program. The anticipated start date is August 2027.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Demonstrate excellence in teaching and effectiveness in research
• Teach the following courses: “United States 1877-Present” (HIST 2710), “Utah History” (HIST 3850), and “Career Pathways for History Majors and Minors” (HIST 3001)
• Contribute to the department’s lower-division, upper-division, and graduate curricula
• Run the department’s internship program
• Contribute to service in the Department, College, and University

Minimum Qualifications

• A PhD in United States History (in hand at the time of application)
• Evidence of teaching excellence in US History and Utah History, both in person and online.
• Experience with mentoring students in career development, internships, and/or community outreach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to contribute to other units in the History Department, such as Classics, Folklore, Philosophy, Public History, and/or Religious Studies.
