The School of Professional and Technical Education at Utah State University seeks candidates for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure-track Professional Practice Assistant Professor or Lecturer in conjunction with the Extension’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program across the state. The appointment is 70% teaching and 30% service with an expectation of assisting and overseeing the VITA program. It is anticipated that the individual selected for this faculty position will start in January of 2027. The successful candidate for this position will teach a variety of tax courses and community education for both the Statewide and Online Education and Utah State University Extension Home and Community Department. As part of USU’s land-grant mission to make academic programs accessible throughout the state, this position will be physically located at the Brigham City Statewide Campus.

This position is based at the Brigham City campus, one of Utah State University’s statewide campus locations. The Brigham City region and the School of Professional and Technical Education, recognizing that strong connections with the local community enhance student learning and success. Accordingly, faculty in this position are expected to make their primary employment contributions at the Brigham City campus while supporting the broader statewide system. Faculty are expected to maintain a consistent on-campus presence by participating in regional activities, student recruitment, office hours, and other opportunities that foster meaningful connections with students. They should also actively engage with community partners and contribute to the educational and professional vitality of the Brigham City region.
The successful candidate will serve within the School of Professional and Technical Education, providing leadership in business and tax education through both academic and community-based programming. This individual will teach undergraduate tax courses, while also directing the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and leading statewide efforts in community-based tax education. Responsibilities include developing and evaluating educational initiatives, building partnerships to expand outreach and improving and implementing undergraduate tax education courses. The candidate is expected to pursue internal and external funding to support programming, document impacts through scholarly publications, and manage budgets, personnel, and volunteers. Collaboration with Extension faculty, university personnel, and community stakeholders is essential, along with a commitment to serving all audiences and supporting Utah State University Extension’s civil rights mandate.
