Overview

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) in the College of Engineering at Utah State University (USU) is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment. We warmly invite applications from candidates of all backgrounds for our tenure-track (or tenured) faculty position(s) in Transportation Engineering. It is expected that one or two position will be filled at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor levels; however, outstanding candidates at the Full Professor level may also be considered. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

For the faculty position(s), targeted areas of research and teaching within transportation engineering include, but are not limited to, the following: transportation electrification, transportation systems analysis, traffic operations, transportation network modeling, connected and autonomous vehicles, traffic signal systems, public transportation, shared mobility, freight transportation or goods movement, human factors, resiliency, cyber-physical systems, computational data science, digital twins, smart cities, societal and environmental impacts, and sustainable transportation systems. An ideal candidate will possess interests and skills that complement existing departmental and institutional strengths—in transportation electrification, traveler behavior, active transportation, transportation data analysis, traffic safety, transportation planning, land use planning, and outdoor recreation—and contribute to addressing 21st-century transportation challenges related to infrastructure, sustainability, and equity.

The CEE department’s Utah Transportation Center has been a part of several University Transportation Centers funded by the US Department of Transportation, most recently the Mountain Plains Consortium. USU houses the Utah Local Technical Assistance Program center for transportation technology transfer. A National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for transportation electrification—Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE)—is headquartered at and led by USU. The Utah Department of Transportation is also a close research partner, having supported USU faculty with more than $1.5 million in research funding over the last 5 years.

The search committee will begin considering applications on November 15, 2023. For full consideration, applications should be submitted prior to that date. Questions about this position can be directed to the search committee chair, Patrick Singleton (patrick.singleton@usu.edu).
