Overview

The Utah State University Music Department seeks a dynamic artist-teacher of Saxophone to head its classical saxophone and jazz programs. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position. Review of applications begins March 20, 2024, and continues until filled. The position start date is August 2024.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include applied saxophone instruction and recruiting for the saxophone studio; coordinating and conducting appropriate master classes along with the scholarship saxophone quartet; directing the Jazz Orchestra, the department’s flagship big band, and assisting in the instrumental performance, band, and music education programs. Other duties may also include coaching jazz groups, performing with faculty ensembles, or other duties based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in music with significant professional experience at the national/international levels required for tenure track. Candidates within one year of completion of DMA may be initially hired at the rank of Instructor and moved to the rank of Assistant Professor the following academic year after completion of the degree.
  • The successful candidate will be an accomplished teacher and performing musician with an engaging teaching manner and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Experience/skills in both classical and jazz is expected.
  • Evidence of successful recruitment and teaching required.
