Overview

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and functionality across University campus buildings, ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all occupants. Works both independently and under general supervision to accomplish tasks efficiently. This position offers variable hourly employment with a maximum of 29 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, refinishes, and upkeeps various types of floor coverings.
  • Ensures cleanliness and replenishes paper and soap supplies in restrooms.
  • Maintains cleanliness of trash receptacles, replacing liners as needed.
  • Dusts furniture, blinds, and equipment to maintain a tidy environment.
  • Cleans windows, walls, and doors to uphold cleanliness standards.
  • Clears snow and ice from all exits, entrances, fire escape exits, and handicap ramps for safety.
  • Assists in maintaining campus grounds, including tasks such as weeding, litter pick-up, and landscaping.
  • Initiates and documents work orders for repair and maintenance.
  • Completes assigned duties and tasks under the guidance of a Supervisor or Manager, including attending training sessions and participating in development teams.
  • Ensures proper handling and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Utah driver’s license is required to perform essential job responsibilities, such as driving university vehicles and transporting materials 
  • Familiarity with general maintenance, cleaning, and landscaping.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of cleaning products, techniques, and standards.
  • Skill in the operation of cleaning equipment such as vacuums, carpet extractors, burnishers, etc.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning applications and methods.
  • Ability to identify maintenance problems that need the attention of repair personnel.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions without close supervision.
  • Ability to make prompt and timely responses to assigned job duties.

This position requires considerable physical activity.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.  Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.   

 

Employees are exposed to hazardous conditions including, noise, vibrations from machinery, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, elevated work spaces, such as scaffolding, and atmospheric conditions that can affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
