Overview

The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education (TDTE) at Utah State University (USU) seeks candidates for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure track term lecturer position that offers benefits. There is a possible opportunity if there is student demand, and department need to extend teaching into summer months. This position is for the business certificate and associate degree programs at the USU Eastern campus in Price, Utah. The appointment is 95% teaching and 5% service. The faculty member will be responsible for initiation and implementation of successful business classes that connect to technical certificates, and stack into associate and bachelor’s degree programs.  This hire will also be responsible for contributing to sustainable enrollment in the classes they instruct.

 

It is anticipated that the individual selected for this faculty position will start in August of 2024.

 

This position will be supervised by the associate department head who oversees the business certificate programs in the Department of Technology, Design and Technical Education. Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2024, and application reviews and interviews will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

  • Act under the general supervision of the Associate Department Head responsible of Business classes.
  • Will work as part of the Business program teaching team and will be responsible for working with other instructors of the team.
  • Assure that the assigned Business classes are conducted in accordance with all federal regulations, University and state rules, and department policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance and skill development.
  • Teach courses within the program curriculum and according to the program schedules.
  • Maintain and provide classroom instruction and maintain a healthy learning environment for students.
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Work with CTE Pathway Programs to recruit students into the classes/Business program.
  • Assure that every student completed in their name has met all completion requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned MS or MA, or higher in Business, or a closely related field (completed by date of appointment). Three or more years of teaching experience. OR
  • Earned MS or MA, or higher in Business, or a closely related field (completed by date of appointment). Five or more years of industry experience working with a company or companies in the field of Business operations, communications, finance, accounting, entrepreneurialism, or similar activities.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated capacity to succeed in teaching at the university level and a willingness to work to become a better instructor.
  • An ability to accommodate varying student learning needs through experiential lab and hands-on learning, lecture, self-directed learning, online learning, and capstone projects.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of online learning systems, such as Canvas or equivalent.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a culturally diverse workforce in a multicultural setting.
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills and a commitment as a team member; ability to foster consensus and collaboration.
  • Strong desire to help students succeed.
  • Prior higher education teaching experience
