Utah State University is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our Women’s Basketball program as an Assistant Coach. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in identifying, recruiting, retaining, and developing talented student-athletes to contribute to the success of our program. The Assistant Coach must maintain discipline, conduct, and image standards for student-athletes, ensuring they represent USU with pride.

 

The Assistant Coach will work closely with the New Head Coach to implement strategies for a winning program as well as build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including alumni, boosters, and community members.

 

This position will also collaborate with the Head Coach to ensure compliance with NCAA policies and regulations, serve as a liaison within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and engage with the Cache Valley and Utah State University communities, as well as participate in activities beyond the Women’s Basketball program, contributing to the overall success and reputation of USU Athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in all facets of the basketball program, including but not limited to on and off-campus recruiting, practice organization, and game planning.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, ensuring compliance in all aspects of the program's operations. Violation of conference or NCAA regulation, as well as those policies of the university, could create negative publicity and jeopardize the University in conference or NCAA standings. Violations by employees will be documented and dealt with on an individual basis and can be cause for dismissal.
  • Manage assigned budget responsibly, including overseeing equipment purchases and travel expenses.
  • Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and provide support as needed to ensure their success in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basketball coaching techniques and strategies, with the ability to develop athletes at every position.
  • Uphold and promote a culture of integrity, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct among staff, student-athletes, and representatives of athletic interests.
  • Successfully complete the NCAA recruiting exam and adhere to all recruiting guidelines and regulations.
  • Foster team cohesion and camaraderie through effective team-building activities and communication.
  • Engage with the community and media to promote the basketball program and foster positive relationships both on and off-campus.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in collegiate coaching.
  • Strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to Division I athletics.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the demands of the basketball season.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years assistant coach at the Division I level preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with student-athletes, staff, and community members.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the academic mission of the university and the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes, promoting character development and personal growth.
  • Proficiency in basketball coaching techniques and strategies, with the ability to develop athletes at all skill levels.
