The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a position as either Lecturer or Professional Practice Assistant Professor at the Utah State University Eastern campus in Price, Utah, with a preferred start date of January 1, 2025 (with an option to defer start until August 1, 2025). The position is an academic year (nine-month), non-tenure track appointment focused on teaching (90% effort), with the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. The specific position title (Lecturer or Professional Practice Assistant Professor) will depend on the qualifications and background of the selected candidate (see Minimum Qualifications section below). From the Lecturer rank, outstanding performance can lead to promotion to Senior Lecturer and subsequently to Principal Lecturer. From the Professional Practice Assistant Professor rank, outstanding performance can lead to promotion to Professional Practice Associate Professor and subsequently to Professional Practice Professor.
The Department has over 50 faculty members, with the majority on the Logan campus and 11 on statewide campuses. This position will be based on the USU Eastern campus, a residential campus of over 1,500 students in Price, Utah. In addition to teaching courses in Price, this position will also serve as a university and department ambassador to students in that campus service region (including Carbon and Emery counties), especially including student engagement and program-specific recruitment activity in the region.
Review of applications begins 1 October 2024, with the position open until filled. For more information, please contact:

Major responsibilities include teaching courses (originating from the USU Eastern campus) in lower division and developmental mathematics, modeling high-quality undergraduate mathematics pedagogical strategies, and innovative undergraduate teaching.
The Lecturer title has no research responsibilities, and the Professional Practice Assistant Professor title has a small (approximately 5% effort) research role focused on involving undergraduates in mathematics-related research, especially at USU Eastern. Because most courses from the
USU Eastern campus include distance delivery to a statewide audience of students via USU’s Connect format, experience in broadcast or online teaching is desirable. The Connect format (https://www.usu.edu/teach/connect) involves an in-person component teaching from the USU Eastern campus, with simultaneous student participation from a number of other USU statewide campuses.
Additional responsibilities include effective participation in the operation and shared governance of the Department, the USU Eastern campus, and the University, including academic organizations related to mathematics education, and professional development opportunities.
