The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education (COMDDE) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with expertise in educational and/or health disparities and autism. This hire is part of an institutional effort to address educational and health disparities in society. As such, this faculty member will work collaboratively with other newly hired and existing faculty members within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services and other colleges to address these disparities through collaborative research, teaching, and service.

The major emphasis area of the position will be research, and the successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent and extramurally funded program of research that both sustains and elevates the department’s regional and national reputation.

The successful candidate will also be expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in speech language pathology. In addition, the preferred candidate will have a strong background in quantitative methods and statistics, with the ability to teach courses in this area.

This is a full-time, 9-month academic year position at the main USU campus in Logan, UT. The position is not eligible for telework.  Review of applicants will begin October 15, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August 2025.

• Engage in projects that seek to advance outcomes associated with educational and/or health disparities in autism
• Lead an extramurally funded research program in autism, which includes publishing research in top-tier scientific outlets
• Engage in collaborative scholarship as part of the educational/health disparities initiative
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned
• Chair and serve on graduate student committees
• Provide service to the department and institution, as well as provide national, state, and local service to the profession

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctorate in speech and language pathology or audiology or related field (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, linguistics). ABD candidates will be considered.
• Evidence of potential to establish a robust program of research that focuses on autism
• Evidence of potential to obtain extramural funding for research program
• A record of refereed journal publications that aligns with the assistant professor level
• Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in alignment with speech-language pathology and related fields
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to teach quantitative methods/statistics courses
• Has secured funding through grant writing or contracts
• Evidence of effective teaching in higher education
• Evidence of excellence in mentoring student researchers

The department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education (COMDDE) includes audiology, deaf education, and speech-language pathology. COMDDE offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including PhD opportunities in neuroscience and disability disciplines within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services.
