Overview

The College of Engineering at Utah State University seeks applicants for a full-time Associate Dean of Research with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2025.
The Associate Dean of Research is responsible for the management and promotion of funded research initiatives and is responsible for stimulating new and continued research activity in the College of Engineering.


The ability to elevate the research activity in the college is critical to the Associate Dean of Research. This requires excellent leadership and communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to work with both individual and groups of faculty members to help them be successful in their research goals.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentoring faculty on research opportunities.
  • Providing professional development opportunities to support faculty research efforts.
  • Engaging with college research centers.
  • Supervising the proposal development team.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between the college and the Vice President for Research.
  • Interfacing with the Sponsored Programs Office (SPO).
  • Seeking and evaluating strategic research partnerships with other colleges within USU and externally.
  • Promoting and supporting the development of research centers.
  • Supervising the recognition of significant research accomplishments in the college including the events of Research Week.
  • Improving the processes and support for researchers in the college.
  • Initiating and nurturing research collaborations with colleges and centers throughout USU.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • The Associate Dean of Research must hold a PhD in engineering.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated expertise appropriate for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Positive experience in research with demonstrated success in program development and leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership success in research.
  • Extensive experience in higher education and a commitment to the education a mission of the college.
  • Success as a PI or leader of an independent research program.
  • A solid understanding of sponsored research and the application processes.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and work with members of the academic and research community.
