Overview

Join the USU Extension Create Better Health (Utah’s SNAP-ED program) and be a part of a comprehensive program dedicated to supporting low-income individuals and families in your community!

Create Better Health (SNAP-Ed) provides three main services:

  • Virtual and in person direct nutrition education focusing on basic nutrition, culinary skills, and physical activity
  • Policy, System, and Environment (PSE) projects focusing on collaborating closely with community partners to improve access to healthy food and safe physical activity opportunities.
  • Social Marketing initiatives to teach healthy concepts through social media, community wellness challenges, social marketing campaigns, etc.

Create Better Health provides services to both youth and adults in both online and face-to-face settings, focused on meeting the current needs of the community and contingent upon current conditions of federal, state, and local requirements.

In addition to serving the community, the Create Better Health workforce is set up as a dynamic workforce development system. Ambassadors in the program are encouraged to have a continuous growth mindset and are provided skill development, certification, networking, and resume development throughout the time with Create Better Health. A series of levels are available to these interested ambassadors, leading to a professional level readiness and connection by the time they reach the top level.

All new ambassadors are hired as apprentices and upon completion of the onboarding training and mentorship.  They will be eligible to receive their first pay raise and become a certified ambassador.

We are seeking a qualified individual in San Juan County to join our Create Better Health team part-time (approximately 20 hours per week, subject to available grant funding) as an ambassador of Create Better Health.

This person will be responsible for working with their supervisor to run the Create Better Health services and report their impacts routinely. Preferably, candidates should have familiarity with SNAP procedures, county dynamics, and local community food distribution sites and food security efforts.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage and educate participants, ensuring alignment with federal guidelines and program objectives.
  • Participate in state-wide social marketing efforts.
  • Adhere to grant policies, protocols, and procedures integral to SNAP-ED's grant-funded status. The state office will provide guidance to each county to support this adherence.
  • Conduct mandatory evaluations with each program activity and report in the PEARS evaluation portal in a timely manner.

This role requires a self-motivating, proactive approach in engaging partners and clients, coupled with a commitment to meeting federal guidelines. The SNAP-ED program operates within the framework of grant funding, making adherence to policies, protocols, and procedures essential.

If you're passionate about making a positive impact in the community, are committed to promoting health and nutrition education, have a continuous growth mindset, and meet the qualifications of the position, we encourage you to apply.
