Overview

Dr. Zhongde Wang’s laboratory in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University has an opening for an hourly position for a Research Technician working as a team member with postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students to conduct research focusing on developing genetically engineered animal models.

Responsibilities

Working with research associates, postdocs, graduate students to conduct molecular/cellular biology, embryology, and genetic engineering research, including but not limited to:

  • Laboratory animal (rodent) breeding, taking care of animals, including feeding animals, changing cages, breeding and weaning animals, and genotyping analysis
  • Other types of animal handling, including surgeries, tissue collection, and post-surgical animal monitoring and care, and records management
  • Culture and other in vitro manipulations of animal cells, oocytes, and embryos
  • Help to maintain lab (monitoring and maintaining lab equipment, general lab chores)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in biology, Animal Sciences, or a related field
  • Previous experience with breeding rodents and genotyping analysis
  • Ability to plan and carry out complex laboratory procedures
  • Reliable, self-motivated, hard-working, and detail-oriented
  • Flexible with working schedules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passionate about the research in developing using animal models and care about the animals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to anticipate project needs and plan carefully to optimize resources necessary for successful project completion
  • Communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines
  • Great team player

This position requires moderate physical effort.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing.  Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
