Overview

The Registrar’s Office is seeking an experienced accountant senior who will lead our dynamic and collaborative accounts receivable team. This position reports directly to the Assistant Registrar for Systems and is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial aspects of student tuition and fees. This position leads partnerships between the Office of the Registrar and campus stake holders to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments, refunds, exemptions, and related financial functions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of tuition and fees. Calculate, build, and maintain necessary functions related to tuition and fees. Work with registration and scheduling teams to roll and populate forms and tables necessary to begin a new term. Maintain detail code table, including application of payment rules to achieve optimum results.
  • Provide leadership and collaboration within Office of the Registrar, Controllers Office, Bursars Office, Veterans Resource Office, and across campus on all student financial issues. Work independently in all functions managed by the accounts receivable team and supervise accounting assistant senior position.
  • Provide support to departments in reporting their fee income.
  • Monitor university systems to resolve errors within student information system (Banner).
  • Prepare and distribute 1098-T statements for students and IRS.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and administrators with registration and fee payment inquiries regarding USU policy and procedures.
  • Coordinate office needs with the Registrar and leadership team, represent the Registrar’s Office when required, assist with training and development of office personnel, and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Provide proactive solutions to avoid future problems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus four years of experience or equivalent education plus experience is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and databases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Banner student accounts receivable system.
  • Experience in higher education accounting.
  • Knowledge of higher education.

  • Skilled in creative problem solving.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to discreetly handle confidential information.

  • Proficient in spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations and University financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, and/or projections.
  • Ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.
  • Skilled with balancing and reconciling accounts.
