Overview

To assist with the challenges facing some students, the Assistant Director of Access Outreach & Engagement (Program Coordinator II) will assist students in navigating the higher education system by providing support, resources, and direction in understanding Utah State. The successful candidate will work closely with students and their families to navigate the admissions process, review financial assistance offered and assist students through their first-year of enrollment at Utah State University.

 

As a member of the Admissions Pathways & Engagement team, the successful applicant will coordinate outreach activities to identify and contact prospective first-generation students across the USU System, provide them with information about the University, and facilitate their enrollment. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills in order to provide outstanding customer service over the telephone, in email correspondence, and in person to students and their parents.

Responsibilities

Assistant Director of Access Outreach & Engagement (Program Coordinator II) will be responsible for efforts including, but not limited to:

  • Contact with potential students and parent/guardian
  • Plan and execute True Blue: College Access Days, strategic high school visits, and other historically underrepresented student focused events
  • Manage and award HB144 Waiver Program
  • Guide students and their parents through potential obstacles and barriers of access that students face, guide families through the enrollment process, and
  • Connect students to mentors and resources (e.g., faculty, the LatinX Center, Aggie First Scholars, etc.)
  • Coordinate the AggieUp Program with local high schools to promote concurrent enrollment and access to higher education
  • Advise a group of Ambassadors that focus on college access efforts
  • Plan and execute Spanish language campus tours
  • Initiate the creation and maintenance of websites and materials specific to student needs (Spanish language, first-generation, etc.)

Because recruitment at Utah State is a team effort, candidates will be instrumental in providing team leadership in the recruitment of targeted student populations, exploring/identifying potential growth markets, and building relationships among all USU campuses and sites. This role will initiate, manage and oversee projects that align with the university’s Land Grant mission for access. They will lead these campaigns and initiatives with the help with staff inside and outside of the Admissions Pathways & Engagement Office. This position will drive recruitment by training, managing and coordinating with Admissions Specialists across the USU System.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree plus two years of experience in recruiting, admissions, registration, student services related area or an equivalent
  • Cultural competence and understanding
  • Fluent in Spanish (verbal, written and cultural)
  • Experience with first-generation students
  • Understanding of admission and scholarship requirements and procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Extensive public speaking experience
  • Event development and coordination
  • Willingness to travel, evening and weekend work
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new computer programs
  • Familiarity with various social media networks
  • Experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing new programs
  • Experience with program evaluation experience (collecting and analyzing data)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or some graduate work
  • Cultural competency training
  • Understanding of educational barriers for specific demographics (ex. first-generation)
  • Willingness for continual education in relevant topics
  • Familiarity with Banner and CRM Softwares
  • Education or experience in public relations/marketing
  • Strong computer skills
  • Supervision of students and/or student groups
  • Tele counseling/ virtual communication experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of/and appreciation for higher education
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders at USU and the community
  • Ability to work with a variety of audiences including prospective students (traditional & post-traditional), parents, advisors and alumni, and tailor messages to specific populations
  • Ability to multitask and initiate new projects
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
