Overview

*THIS POSITION IS LOCATED ON THE USU EASTERN CAMPUS IN PRICE, UTAH*

 

The GEAR UP Program Associate II plans and coordinates the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of the GEAR UP program at USU Eastern. They oversee and coordinate all GEAR UP services in eight area schools in the southeast service region and work to develop collaborative relations with these schools to provide GEAR UP services and to meet goals, outcomes, and GEAR UP objectives. This professional works in collaboration with GEAR UP Utah administration and reports to the Executive Director of Student Services at USU Eastern. This is a grant-funded position and is contingent on the availability of grant funds.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, coordinates, implements, and directs all aspects of the GEAR UP program.
  • Oversees and is responsible for the implementation, administration, and achievement of program objectives, as well as staff engagement in achieving grant objectives. With extra emphasis and attention to Concurrent Enrollment and recruiting GEAR UP participants to attend college at USU Eastern.
  • Direct, organize, and plan activities, services, and engagement to achieve program objectives.
  • Serves as the principal liaison between GEAR UP Utah and GEAR UP at USU Eastern.
  • Facilitates staff meetings; attends departmental meetings; and attends required GEAR UP trainings, meetings, and conferences.
  • Coordinates activities, schedules, and training for full-time and part-time staff. Oversees the hiring, evaluations, and performance of staff members.
  • Monitors the time and effort of GEAR UP grant employees.
  • Monitors and administers program revenues and expenses of the grant, including cost share, and serves as the principal financial manager of these grant funds. Develops the annual budget for this grant.
  • Has the primary responsibility for meeting grant reporting deadlines and ensures compliance to grant and institutional financial regulations, policies, and procedures. This includes the Annual Performance Report (APR) for the grant.
  • Oversee and helps develop the promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures for the GEAR UP program.
  • Collects and analyzes data; prepares scheduled and special reports about grant performance and objectives; oversees the maintenance of program records and statistical information. Utilizes this information to make necessary adjustments for the program, program participants, reporting, and progress towards achieving grant objectives.
  • Ensures completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, and other publications.
  • Oversees, maintains, and recommends updates to the program’s website.
  • Works to build strong relationship, program understanding, and collaborative partnerships with school administration and professionals in our service region.
  • Oversees and takes primary responsibility for the business and operational decisions that affect the GEAR UP program at USU Eastern and the overall performance of the program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience
  • Experience working to increase access to educational resources in similar programs focused on low-income secondary and post secondary students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related discipline plus 3 years of experience and/or training
  • Prefer Spanish fluency or multilingual

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to under-served populations and experience working these populations.
  • Knowledge of strategies for closing achievement gaps among under-served populations.
  • Familiarity with program tracking, data collection, and evaluation methods and procedures. Ability to create and generate performance reports.
  • Knowledge of GEAR UP grant procedures, services, implementation, budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting.
  • Ability to lead, train, supervise, and direct staff and students.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities to achieve desired outcomes and performance metrics.
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and administration in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to promote, recruit, educate, and inform schools, families, students, and key stakeholders of the value and benefits of the GEAR UP program. Have a passion for the vision and mission of the GEAR UP program.
  • Ability to exercise creativity, decision-making, problem-solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments for the program.
  • A good attitude, a growth mindset, and a strong work ethic.
