Overview

Utah State University is searching for a Professional Practice Assistant Professor in Agricultural Machinery to develop and teach courses related to production-based agricultural technology including but not limited to forage and harvest equipment, planting and tillage equipment, off-road engines and power transmission, hydraulics, mechanized irrigation technology, welding, machinery management, refrigeration, electrical systems and electronics. This is a non-tenure-track teaching position with a 9-month appointment. The successful applicant will reside in the Department of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Education.

 

Estimated start date is August 1, 2025, as classes will begin on August 25, 2025. This position will be approximately 95% teaching and 5% service.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be expected to teach essential courses for the Agricultural Machinery Technology (AMT) and Agricultural Systems Technology (AST) programs
  • Strengthening the stackable degree pathway (certificate to AAS to BS)
  • Develop and implement industry recognized technician credentialing
  • Facilitate and oversee work-based development and internship programs
  • Recruit and attract high quality students by serving as the AMT program leader while establishing robust connections with technical colleges,
    industry, and workforce development partners
  • Additional duties will include oversight management of the Applied Systems Technology Laboratories and co-advise the Ag Tech student club. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Agricultural Systems Technology, Technical Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Agricultural Education or related fields.
  • 3 years of experience in the agricultural machinery industry or production agriculture
  • Minimum of 1 years of teaching experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to facilitate in-person laboratory intensive classes
  • Proficiency in agricultural machinery diagnostics and repair
  • Excellent safety record
  • Physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds for a distance of 30 feet
  • Ability to bend, kneel, or stoop during laboratory instruction
  • Ability to stand for 3-5 hours during laboratory instruction

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in Agricultural Systems Technology, Technical Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Agricultural Education, or related fields.
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience, including experience with educational technology, online instruction, and various teaching methods
  • Experience with extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications related to teaching and learning
