The Department of Psychology at Utah State University invites applications for an associate or full professor of Health Psychology to help us launch a new Health Psychology PhD specialization and undergraduate programming. Additional faculty lines are pre-allocated to assist in establishing this focus area in the department.
We are particularly interested in candidates with research programs focused on health disparities, applying a broad interpretation of this term. However, we welcome and encourage applications from all qualified candidates with research programs related to any aspect of health psychology.
This hire is part of a college-wide effort within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services to address educational and health disparities in society. As such, this faculty member will work collaboratively with other newly hired faculty members within the college to address these disparities through collaborative research, teaching, and service.
The position is located on USU’s main campus in Logan, Utah. This position is not eligible for remote work. This is a tenure-eligible position with a nine-month, academic year appointment anticipated to begin in August 2025.

The USU Department of Psychology is located within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. The Department is home to 39 faculty representing diverse areas of psychology. Faculty enjoy collaborative relationships with others in the Department and other departments in the College (e.g., Human Development and Family Studies, Nursing, Kinesiology and Health Science, which is home to USU’s Master of Public Health program) and across campus (e.g., Sociology). The Department of Psychology itself (e.g., Alzheimer’s Disease and Cognitive Disorders Lab, Physical and Mental Health Interactions Lab), the College of Education and Human Services (e.g., Perception-Action Lab, Neuromuscular Research Lab, Department of Nursing), as well as other centers and programs at USU (e.g., Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Research Center, USU Extension Program – HEART Initiative) offer rich opportunities for members of our department to conduct and establish collaborations in health-related research. The Department offers PhD specializations in Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Behavior Analysis, and Brain and Cognition as well as contributing to a multi-department PhD in Neuroscience. The Department also offers an undergraduate major (BS) in Psychology, a distance-learning masters degree (MEd) in Professional School Counseling, and an Educational Specialist degree (EdS) in School Psychology.
