Overview

The Department of Applied Economics at Utah State University is seeking candidates for a Business Consultant SR. The Business Resource Consultant will manage all aspects of the Moab Small Business Development Center (SBDC). This position, based at the USU Moab campus, is a full-time, fully benefited position. The position is a 3-year position and will be dependent on continued funding.

 

The Business Consultant will deliver professional, high-quality, individualized business consulting and technical assistance to existing small businesses and pre-venture entrepreneurs. This position will require working with internal and external entities to determine training needs and resources in the Grand County service area. It will offer problem-solving assistance to help small businesses with all business management, operational, and growth aspects. This individual may supervise interns or part-time/full-time employees if necessary. These classes may be credit or non-credit classes depending on the needs. Teaching assignments may be adjusted based on seasonal and/or semesterly time commitments and needs. 

 

It is anticipated that the individual selected for this position will start in February or March of 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the mission of the SBDC in support of the business owners of Grand County
  • Coordinate economic development efforts with Grand County Economic Development and Chamber of Commerce
  • Provide consulting resources for all business areas such as financial resources i.e. capital acquisition and or investor ready, operational processes, personnel, marketing, business registration, and productivity.
  • Coordinate functions that support, enhance, guide, educate, align, or otherwise assist business owners and employees.
  • Assist the Moab Campus with regional advisory committees and industry advisory groups, as well as other business or training-related activities.
  • Provide accurate record keeping, data entry, reconciling, organization, and reporting as assigned.
  • Coordinate with business outreach programs as they relate to and/or incorporate support programs that may include but are not limited to the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), APEX Accelerator, Wildcat Fund, Custom Fit (CF), Short Term Intensive Training (STIIT), Workforce Services, Voc Rehab, and USDA Rural Development.
  • Align with USU and/or other training partners to meet business needs within the community.
  • Supervise interns, volunteers, or office staff as needed.
  • Coordinate marketing and outreach of the business resource center/community incubator
  • Compile program outcomes, projections, and trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An associate degree plus four years of related work experience, a bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Excellent effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective computer skills and ability to learn new programs and software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business ownership or business management experience.
  • Experience with the banking industry as it relates to business development and management.
  • Marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to present.
  • Data Base, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, and other related software programs.
