The Early Childhood Specialst (Coordinator III) position at Care About Childcare (CAC) offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and fast-paced team within the Human Development and Family Studies Department at Utah State University's Logan campus. As part of a high-energy office dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of children and families, this role is ideal for self-motivated, detail-oriented individuals passionate about making a meaningful impact in child care programs. 

The Early Childhood Specialst will play a key role in utilizing the Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) tools to support the assessment and quality improvement of early childhood programs. This includes coaching child care providers and administrators and observing and assessing the quality of a variety of child care settings. Additionally, the position involves teaching courses on early childhood best practices and child development, both in-person and online, to child care providers.  Applicants should be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays, and will be required to travel to child care programs and meetings throughout the year, including winter months. Use the Environmental Rating Scale tools to assist in the assessment and quality improvement activities for early childhood programs for centers and family child care. Work with state administrators to become reliable with ERS tools and continue reliability. Follow all state policies and procedure when working on observations and program feedback and meet deadlines. (45%)

Intensive coaching to childcare providers, helping them understand and implement practices proven to be optimal for child development. Know all components of Utah’s Child Care Quality System and other programs and resources for child care programs and caregivers. Follow a coaching timeline and keep and be on time for all scheduled visits with programs. Be a positive member of a statewide team by attending meetings in Salt Lake and on-line, completing assignments and be encouraging and helpful to other specialists statewide. (50%)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Family and Human Development; OR an Associate in Early Childhood Education, Family and Human Development and two years of experience; OR four years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience plus education.
• Some experience working to assist in the professional development of another adult.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a licensed child care center or with Utah child care licensing regulations.
• Experience or training teaching adults.
• Experience or training working with the Environment Rating Scale or other early childhood observation tools.
• Spanish speaking
