Overview

The College of Veterinary Medicine @ Utah State University is looking for simulated clients to assist in teaching professional grade communication skills to our veterinary students.

As a part of our Clinical Communications program, the simulated clients are given a simulated veterinary scenario to study and play-out with the students, and their coaches. You will be expected to embrace the role of an animal owner who is seeing professional veterinary guidance and/or medical treatment. Your ability to adopt the role, eb & flow with a range of emotions and concerns, and provide believable responses, will be important in helping our students to see how their communication impacts the people they’ll encounter as veterinarians.

Training/rehearsals are in 2 hours blocks from Feb 18-26th with flexible times. Classes are Thursdays from 8a-12p/1p, from Feb 27th to April 17th, with the exception of March 13th. Please check your schedule before applying.

Simulated learning is a fun way to help our students practice real situations. A sort of “rehearsal for the real world”, if you will.

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

College/Department Highlights

The CVM Simulated Client will be joining the college at an exciting point of transformation. Currently, the USU College of Veterinary Medicine participates in a "2+2" program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine, which provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022 the state of Utah approved the creation of a full four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program at USU, with the goal of admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. The new college is the only veterinary medical education program in Utah.

The Utah State University College of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to providing top-tier education and training to the next generation of veterinarians. Our program emphasizes hands-on learning, innovative teaching methods, and a commitment to excellence in veterinary care. Join our dynamic team and contribute to shaping the future of veterinary medicine.
