Overview

The Aggie Chocolate Factory, Research, and Learning Center (ACF) within the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University is a small-scale craft manufacturer of bean-to-bar chocolate specializing in high quality single origin products. As a manufacturer it is essential that the factory operate efficiently and safely as a business, research, and center of education and learning. To accomplish this, the facility must comply with industry best practice standards of operation and management. The ACF has a temporary part-time position for a multi-talented individual willing to accept a wide range of responsibilities from customer service, factory maintenance, and production. The position reports directly to the manager of the ACF.


Availability:

The Aggie Chocolate Factory will accommodate your schedule as best as possible with priority given to your academic schedule.
To maintain this position, you will be required to work between 10-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Smile! This is a chocolate factory, you should be passionate about chocolate
  • Conduct public tours of the Aggie Chocolate Factory for large and small groups
  • Conduct special seminars and tasting sessions for Aggie Chocolate Factory guests
  • You will be responsible for collecting payment via credit, debit or other card and accurately navigate the POS system
  • Serve drinks and other chocolate treats
  • Prepare hot and cold chocolate drinks by following recipes meticulously
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized work environment including sweeping & mopping floors, wiping & shining counters, cleaning and shining machines, etc.
  • Open/close facility as needed at beginning and ending of shifts
  • Perform clerical tasks such as answering phone calls, taking orders, and keeping electronics systems up to date
  • Sort and prepare cocoa beans for roasting
  • Wash dishes and utensils used for preparation of café and production items
  • Become an expert in chocolate and be prepared to make recommendations
  • Ability to think logically, critically, solve problems, and implement solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt as necessary to changing circumstances
  • Personal computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to work independently and with teams

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an industrial food manufacturing business or restaurant
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control for food manufacturing
  • Currently hold or acquire a food handler’s permit before employment commences
  • Basic mathematics skills
  • Effective communications skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Availability to work any shift as required including weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Follow workplace dress code
  • Zero tolerance for personal use of cell phones and earbuds while in the factory without permission from the factory manager.

This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of average weight objects up to 50 pounds and/or standing or walking more than four hours per day. The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
