Overview

The Registrar’s Office is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Programmer/Analyst I to join our team.  The Programmer/Analyst I serves a critical role in data mining and research, curating datasets and report writing. This position regularly collaborates with internal and external partners in order to evaluate and improve accuracy, processes, and student success. The successful candidate will have technology and organizational skills, as well as the ability to prioritize competing needs and effectively manage change and unanticipated challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and troubleshoot SQL queries of routine to moderate complexity using Banner tables, the reporting warehouse, and all respective inclusive structures.
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices.
  • Validate results and analyze data for accuracy.
  • Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing Student Information System (SIS) processes and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Develop metrics and visuals to help USU personnel make data informed decisions.
  • Develop and maintain reporting library and documentation.
  • Provide Banner Communication Management email support and Banner system access administration.
  • Provide guidance, training, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology, programming skills, and industry standards.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records in compliance with the regulations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Work on special projects and other additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of related experience, OR Bachelor's degree, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SQL Programming experience with an emphasis on report writing.
  • Data visualization experience with a knowledge of relevant programs and languages such as Tableau, Python, and R.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience defining and solving practical problems and creating accurate, validated reporting for business making decisions.
  • Experience interpreting client needs and formulating an overall analysis and effective project plan.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting programming changes and modifications of advanced complexity.
  • Experience using the Banner Student Information System.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws including, but not limited to FERPA.
  • Experience in higher education.
